About My Library

The High Queerdness Lending Library is the first project of High Queerdness, a newly formed nonprofit dedicated to queer creativity and resistance. Our mission is to democratize knowledge and build cultural infrastructure to sustain our communities.

The Lending Library grew out of Kaffeeklatsch, a beloved community coffee space known for fostering creativity, dialogue, and connection. From 2020 to 2022, the library lived inside Kaffeeklatsch’s storefront, offering a crowdsourced collection of rare, radical, and underrepresented queer literature and zines. It centered 2SLGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities—providing access to stories, voices, and ideas often erased from mainstream libraries.

When Kaffeeklatsch’s storefront closed in 2022, the collection—now over 600 carefully curated titles—was packed into storage. While Kaffeeklatsch continued through pop-ups and a kiosk, the library itself was left without a home to reach the communities it was built to serve.

Now, with the support of the City of Calgary and a network of collaborators, we’re relaunching the Lending Library with a renewed vision and a permanent space. Together, we are continuing a shared legacy of creativity, care, and resistance.
