- a work in progress, that I thought I would share
Says the Angel
Don’t be afraid. Listen up. This is real:
as real as the cold and night darkness
the world-as-you-know-it is now
changed forever. See the glory of the Lord
that I brought with me --
flaming in the sky
blocking out all the stars?
This is good news. The whole world
will share in this great joy of birth
but I’m telling you shepherds who are out here
alone on the edge, in the wilderness
separate from the warmth and comfort
of the city of David,
I’m telling you who remember
that David started with sheep and faith:
Look for a baby wrapped in bands of cloth
and lying in a manager.
Don’t let anyone tell you this is a metaphor
or magic or a lie or an illness.
Out of all the past and all the yet-to-come,
Listen up:
Unto you this night the Messiah is born!
So this night brings great joy but
should not bring mere happiness.
For when the Messiah comes!
When the Messiah comes!
When the Messiah comes!
The lion lies down with the lamb
the poor will be raised up from oppression.
Nothing good is easy
birth is never without pain.
Listen:
Glory be to God in Heaven,
and Peace on Earth
for those with whom the Lord is pleased.
