- About My Library
- The collections are physical locations, not a judgement about the type of book.
Ratings are entirely subjective, and really all about how much personal enjoyment or enlightenment I got out of the book. I'm not making a statement about absolute quality. I really don't know any other way to compare say, an art book to a Shakespeare omnibus. For standard works, like, say, a Bible or a dictionary, it's a comparison to others of its type. The ratings are very heavily skewed to 3 and above, because I'll rarely keep a book that I'd rate at a 1 or a 2.
If I picked up an omnibus of books I've never owned before, I've typically cataloged the omnibus, and with its cover. If the omnibus replaced individual copies (typically a sturdy hardcover replacing tattered paperbacks) I'll typically catalog the individual works, and with the covers of the volumes I once owned. On various whims I may make exceptions.
With the exceptions of the omnibus editions, I've tried very hard to make the covers match what I physically have. If you see generic covers, it's because I have a book with a plain cover and no dustjacket.
Books with no rating or tags are almost certainly on my "to read" shelf.
I use LT for physical books. My ebooks are over at http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/5590148-rick - About Me
