About meThe American Corners (AC) program is a United States Department of State-sponsored initiative inaugurated worldwide beginning of the century. There are almost 400 Corners in 60 countries all around the world under the program. The fundamental function of American Corners is to make information about the United States available to foreign publics at large. They provide access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book, video, and DVD collections, the Internet, and through local programming to general public. They serve as regional resource centers for information and programs highlighting American culture, history, current events, and government.
The American Corner in Podgorica is made available through joint efforts of the US Embassy of Podgorica and authorities of the Capital City Podgorica. Its host institution is Cultural Information Center Budo Tomovic. Opened in November 2003, it grows rapidly in membership and popularity among English speaking Montenegrins.
About my libraryLibrary consists of over 2700 titles in English. The reference books can be used in the Corner: dictionaries and diverse encyclopedias. Others can be signed out for two weeks. The covered areas include: American literature, history and law, politics, business, journalism, but also music, arts, movies and many other fields of interest.
Resources for practicing the tests such as TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT await all those who wish to continue their studies or research in the USA.
Magazines are available too. National Geographic, Smithsonian, New York Review of Books, Scientific American, Art in America, Highlights… to name but a few.
It is important note that our library is periodically enriched with new titles, many of which are suggested by our members. We believe that in this way we are creating the library that suits the needs of our members the best and guarantees constantly high level of interest.
