- About My Library
- My library reflects the fact I much prefer fiction - the non-fiction tends to be interest-related (gardening, art, interiors, cooking) or books I've been given as gifts.
Some books are favourites because I read them at a particular time in my life and they made an impression, some for sheer enjoyment or for admiration for the writer's craft. They include To Kill a Mockingbird, First Love, Last Rites, Waiting for the Barbarians, Cloud Atlas, and Pride and Prejudice.
As well as classic authors such as Austen and Dickens, favourites I return to often include David Mitchell, Jim Crace, JM Coetzee, Kazuo Ishiguro, Haruki Murakami, Julian Barnes, William Boyd, Donna Tartt, Ali Smith, Sebastian Barry and Ian McEwan.
I use [1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die] as a sort of guide, not to be followed slavishly, and once read, I tend to keep these in my library. - About Me
