- I like medieval murder mysteries. Ellis Peters is the standard by which other authors in the genre are judged. I haven't found any who are equal, but Candace Robb comes close. Margaret Frazer is also good. It seems this is a genre in which male authors (Ellis Peters is a pseudonym) don't excel,
