Great trade publishers define their times and endure beyond them. Holt and Company, founded more than 150 years ago, has not only endured since its days of publishing Robert Louis Stevenson novels and Robert Frost poetry, but it has distinguished itself with a dynamic list of award-winning and bestselling fiction (Hilary Mantel’s magnificent Wolf Hall trilogy and Susan Choi’s Trust Exercise, winner of the 2019 National Book Award), history (Pulitzer Prize winner Rick Atkinson’s Revolution Trilogy), politics (Stacey Abrams and Elizabeth Warren), mysteries and thrillers, biography, science (Elizabeth Kolbert’s Pulitzer-winning The Sixth Extinction), popular culture, and psychology.
Holt is the home of incomparable storytellers, as the original publisher of The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, and prominent authors including Paul Auster, bell hooks, and Tony Horwitz. Upcoming authors include Liane Moriarty, Jenny Lawson, Kimberly Jones, Robin Kelley, Laurie Frankel, and memoirs by Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz.
In addition to the Holt imprint, the company also publishes books under the Metropolitan Books, Andy Cohen Books, Times Books, and Picador imprints.

Founded in 2019 by Minnesota author and historian Colin Mustful, History Through Fiction is an independent press publishing high quality fiction that is rooted in accurate and detailed historical research. The mission of History Through Fiction is to provide readers with a compelling narrative that also acts as a valuable historical resource. Our books, though fictionalized, include important primary and secondary source materials that are disclosed to readers through a variety of traditionally nonfiction elements such as footnotes, endnotes, or a bibliography. This way, readers may enjoy a fictional narrative while also examining the historical foundation upon which that narrative is based. By combining elements of fiction and nonfiction, our authors provide readers with an immersive experience that is both entertaining and educational.

Founded in 2023 as an imprint of History Through Fiction, HTF Publishing is hybrid publisher of compelling, high-quality historical novels. Following in the tradition of History Through Fiction, HTF Publishing seeks to provide readers with engaging historical narratives that are rooted in detailed and accurate historical research. As a hybrid imprint, we want to work with authors who are serious about their craft and aspire to share imaginative, important, and well-researched historical narratives with the world.
Novels published by HTF Published are featured right alongside our traditionally published novels! Because of that, we carefully evaluate all submissions and only offer contracts to authors whose manuscripts demonstrate exceptional writing and thorough research. Our pride lies in the combination of style and substance that our novels possess. To ensure the utmost quality and success, each of our novels undergoes an extensive 12-16 month publishing process.

Inferno Books is an independent Sword & Sorcery publisher dedicated to forging bold, heroic fantasy for a new era—without abandoning the grit, danger, and soul of the classics.

From mist-drenched forests to scorched battlefields, Inferno Books delivers fantasy built on consequence, craft, and fire-forged myth.

Restless Books is an independent, nonprofit publisher devoted to championing essential voices from around the world whose stories speak to us across linguistic and cultural borders. We seek extraordinary international literature for adults and young readers that feeds our restlessness: our hunger for new perspectives, passion for other cultures and languages, and eagerness to explore beyond the confines of the familiar.
Through cultural programming, we aim to celebrate immigrant writing and bring literature to underserved communities. We believe that immigrant stories are a vital component of our cultural consciousness; they help to ensure awareness of our communities, build empathy for our neighbors, and strengthen our democracy.

Riverfolk Publishing is an independent publishing house that's passionate about great stories and take pride in bringing them to you.

RIZE Press publishes great stories and great writing across genres that are written by BIPOC and LGBTQ+ writers.
At RIZE, we know you want to be entertained with stories that represent you, not some stereotype. You crave spellbinding narratives and innovative prose written by lesser represented authors. The problem is that there’s very little diversity in publishing and minority writers are rarely celebrated, which makes you feel invisible. We believe that your voice should be heard from the treetops.

Rootstock Publishing is an innovative, hybrid partnership publishing company that collaborates with authors, whom we think of as the rootstock—the primary source. We are not unique, modeling ourselves after other relatively new, non-traditional hybrid publishing-partnership houses that have met with success for many new writers.
We seek writers who want more control over their work, who seek higher earnings per book sold, and who are willing to invest toward that end. But just as important, we seek authors who have solid marketing ideas about their book, who understand their audience(s), and who are willing to self-promote and work hard to publicize and market their book.

Running Wild Press grew out of a desire to share stories that break barriers. We believe that great stories don’t fit neatly in a box. Most stories available today are simply run-of-the-mill, unoriginal, and in the end, boring, which makes you feel tired and unheard. Our stories can’t be contained, neatly categorized, or homogenized; just like you.

Somewhat Grumpy Press is a small publishing company, founded in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, in 2020.

The founders of Thinking Ink met at our writing group in Silicon Valley, called Write to the End (it’s open to new people all the time–check out writetotheend.com), which is run by Thinking Ink co-founder Keiko O’Leary.

Tuxtails Publishing, LLC was founded in July 2022 with the goal of creating a better, fairer way for authors to share their work with the world. Created by Jessica A. Scott, a bestselling author with over a decade of experience behind her, Tuxtails Publishing is meant to combine everything that is good about independent publishing with the prestige of a traditional publishing house.
For readers, this means higher-quality, well-polished books. For authors, it means more opportunities, less "self-publishing stigma," and the ability to maintain one's own unique voice as a writer.
Tuxtails Publishing publishes both fiction and non-fiction in an ever-expanding list of genres.
Everyone has a tale worth reading. What's yours?

Founded in 1961 by Robert Laxalt, the University of Nevada Press publishes high-quality, deserving works that advance scholarly research, contribute to the understanding and appreciation of regional history and culture, and reach a wide range of academic and general readers. Publication is done in a fiscally responsible manner that reflects the highest editorial, design, and production standards. The citizens of Nevada, readers, and authors are the Press’s most valuable asset.
Our publishing plan is defined in two ways: geographic focus as well as discipline and subject matter. If a book enhances our understanding of Nevada, the Great Basin, or American West—regardless of its field or approach—we’re interested. If it fits a topic we publish on—regardless of its geographic focus—we’re interested. We publish in a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines, including environmental studies, Basque studies, Native American studies, public health, mining, urban studies, and gambling and gaming studies.

Established in 1929 by the Regents of the University of New Mexico, the University of New Mexico Press ranks within the top third of publishing houses in the Association of University Presses (AUP) and is the fourth largest university press west of the Rocky Mountains in publishing new titles. With over 1,200 titles currently in print and as a distributor for local and regional publishers, the Press has been an important element in enhancing the scholarly reputation and worldwide visibility of the university.
The University of New Mexico Press participates in the public mission of the University of New Mexico through a publishing program that seeks to maintain the professional excellence of American university presses in general and to present the finest national and international scholarship in the academic areas in which we publish. We produce scholarly books in the arts, humanities, and natural and social sciences—more specifically, in the areas of fine arts, Western history, Latin American studies, literature, poetry, environmental studies, archaeology, anthropology, and natural history. In recognition of the university’s educational outreach and public role, we also publish books of general interest and significance for our state and our region.
