Beautiful color, and B&W, source material, photo illustrated throughout this slim volume.
The narrator for the book is terrible! This book would be best with the full cast dramatic make-over. I do love the story, I have this Audiobook edition, the bluray movie collectors edition and a first print 60th anniversary edition in a beautiful red slipcase. The narrator ruined this for me, 1 star for the narrator, 5 stars for Margaret Mitchell.
3 STARS-author, 4 STARS-photo illustrations and book quality. This is not an in depth scholarly biography, BEWARE the author does interject his personal feelings into the story. This is light reading about the life and times of our beloved Mark Twain. This lovely book is photo illustrated in color, almost every page has pictures to aid the readers with enjoying the treasure trove of history that surrounded this unique mans life. The photos alone are worth the price of admission. The book is well made, no glue, the binding is sewn, this book is built to be handled and it lays flat when open.
History of the United States in Chronological Order from A.D. 432 to the Present Time by Robert James Belford
This is not an in depth historical review of American history, each monumental moment in our history gets a few words in a sentence, this is a very condensed version of our history up to 1888. Great little reference book. Please try not to judge this book through the prism of the 21st century, you have to remember that this was written in the 19th century.

^ I hate it.
^^ Its okay
*** I like it

I give this 3 stars, it has beautiful full color photos of the Michaelangelo paintings on the ceiling, remember that this is a miniature book, and so the photos are small. but they are clear and many of them are close up. The wide angle shots you do lose good detail. I hope to up-grade to a big coffee table book of the paintings one day, but in the mean time I will enjoy this lovely little book.

This book is the perfect example of the echo chamber of history. When you get down to the nuts & bolts of it, the very themes the author is talking about in this book is repeating itself now. The war on women, religion is bad for you, the need for unionized labor, class warfare, evil capitalism. Will we never learn? This book is like swallowing a spoonful of cod liver oil with sugar on it.
Good wholesome family friendly message about how being kind to others will come back to you in your time of need. The pop-ups are sturdy and well done. I bought my copy at the Goodwill, its 12 yrs. old and all the pop-ups are in perfect working order. And the triangle shape of the book makes it stand out on the book shelf at Christmas time.
Xtra-large coffee table book with 32 full color,close-up plates of the frescoes. This beautiful book is a study of Massaccio in the Brancacci Chapel. The Brancacci Chapel was the school-room to the most eminent Painters, Sculptors and Architects of Renaissance Florence. Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael all honed their craft here. The frescoes depict scenes from the Bible. My copy used to belong to the St. Paul Priory, which makes me love it just a little bit more.
Please read this book with your children, we need to know our history more than ever. Bring a box of tissues, you might cry at the end. Phillis Wheatley is a shinning example of selfless humanity, we should all try to be more like her.
Sheeple, press and both political parties need to put down the gun control and immigration reform and read this booklet, it just might scare you enough to save America from committing suicide.
This book is a warning from the past about the DANGERS of ruling from the LEFT. Total propaganda about the wonderful utopia that Chairman Mao created with the 1949 Communist takeover of the Chinese people. Read this book to your children and then show them the truth.
The artwork for Prince Ahmed is...dazzling.
It is very important to remember that the words contained in this book are the words of BOOKER T. WASHINGTON, we should not run away from them. We should be haunted by them.
I love this guy! He makes you think for yourself, his stories have lessons to teach you. This story is about just how much is happening behind your back, even when your looking. Edward Gorey never seems to feel the need to "tie-up" any loose ends in his books, so I am left to wonder, if the message of the book is, terrible things happen around us all the time and we don't take any notice just going about our business as if everything is fine. Or, maybe, just maybe. BEWARE of the last kid standing, Damien from the Omen, comes to mind, in a funny sorta' way.
Puss tells the peasants that they "will be chopped as fine as herbs for the pot!" if they deny the land belongs to his master. NO warm and fuzzy kitty eyes here.
Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: A Story from A Thousand and One Arabian Nights (A Little Golden Book (#323) by Lowell Hess
This book is awesome!! I tell you one this for sure, they don't write 'um like this anymore. This little book is a time machine, it will open a big can of "reality check" to show just how far to the left we have moved as a society. Just think about it...only 55 yrs. ago it was okay for children to read about Ali Babas slave, called Morgiana, this little lady will do anything to protect her master's fortune and merry his son. She helps Ali Baba cover up the circumstances of his brothers death, he was cut into "four pieces", and she "went to fetch a leatherworker" to sew the body together again. She follows this act up with,"So Mogiana took oil from the jar in the courtyard, and she boiled it in the kettles. When it was hot she poured oil into each of the jars until each thief was smothered." But shes not done yet, she still needs to take out the head thief, she does this with a seductive dance, "And when she had finished dancing, and the men were still entranced with her beauty and with the music, Morgiana plunged a dagger deep into the heart of the wicked robber." Only after all this did she get her man and live happily ever after.
Edward Gorey always leaves me wanting more. This genius of a man forces you to think for yourself, he never feels the need to "sew up" the loose ends.. This story is about three friends discovering that life is a journey not a destination. Have Fun!
Gotta love the classics. This short, condensed book is great! It has not been cleaned up to the point that anything, that someone, might find to be to much for children to see, was edited out. Some juicy bits are left in, like on pgs. 28-29, where children will see the stabbing death of King Pelias by his daughters, these daughters then "boiled him in water." in hopes of making him "young and strong again." Children beware old school Greek style story time might give you nightmares...........
I give it 4 STARS. You just gotta' love any fairy tale that ends with the wicked queen wearing "red-hot iron shoes, and dancing until she fell down dead. Snow White and the Prince lived happily ever after." I get a real kick outta these old kids books, they sure don't write books like this anymore. Fawns lungs to start the story.... anyone?
I give this 2 1/2 STARS:The photography of the dogs in this book is the key to enjoying it. The story is best for the very young, the 10 and under crowd.
This ain't no Disney....this was written well before the PC police landed on Book planet. This story of Aladdin takes place in China, our little hero is a lazy child who is kidnapped by an uncle, this uncle try's to use Aladdin to get the lamp, but he is falls short and he leaves Aladdin to die. Terrible Genie to the rescue and Aladdin heads home to mom where they use genie to become rich and prosperous. Aladdin spies on the beautiful Princess Buddir al Baddoor, from behind the door of the bath. When Aladdin learns that there is a competitor for the heart of the Princess he has genie chain him up in a dark, dismal place. Aladdin knocks on the front door of the Sultans house to ask for the Princess' hand in marriage while his forty slaves throw handfuls of gold to the crowds in the street. The marriage deal is struck and they move into a magic castle next door provided by genie, complete with gardens, stables and horses, and servants and slaves. Aladdin and the Princess live happily until his uncle comes back on the scene, he tricks the Princess into giving him the lamp, she and the palace disappear. When the Sultan learns about it he threatens to have Aladdin's head cut off. With a little help from genie, Aladdin is reunited with his wife and they hatch a plan to poison the uncle and take the lamp back, and they lived happily ever after. I like this little book, they don't write um' like this any more:)
This books real charm is not so much the story, but in the exceptional art work.
What we have here is a book that is very similar in story format to Little Black Sambo, except the main character is a little girl named Quasha and Frog. Quasha and the Frog outwit all the tigers and the tigers end up as bloody hunks of meat strewn across the pages. No racism here. I have the 1908 edition so I don't know if the newer versions have been changed at all.
What is interesting about this book is, the art work feels like your looking at Edward Gorey. The color pallet of the book is black, white and shades of grey. The paper engineering is very simple. The book takes you on a tour through the house pointing out all the common objects that have become known as unlucky. The author gives a mini history lesson for each unlucky situation.
I am a woman born in the late 60's and so I grew up with all the pop culture references in the book. All the previous reviewers that talked about how FUN this book is, are 100% correct. I truly enjoyed every page of this wonderful story. This book brought back so many memories from my youth...............meanwhile back on the farm, this story also opens a window onto the very near future, and this future don't look so good. It won't be much longer and this dystopia will be reality.
I'm a 40something year old woman who loves historical fiction. I stumbled across this on audible.com and fell in love with the high octane action and quirky humor. This book has a little of everything, monsters of all type and sort, car chases, explosions, guns, and every imaginable weapon. All washed down with a large drink of snarky wit. Can Owen save the world and get the girl? Buckle up your helmet kiddies it's a hell of a ride. Do yourself a favor and read the first chapter where our humble hero Owen Z. Pitt will make you fall in love too.
With out a doubt you WILL be pleased with your purchase of this book. The pop-ups will blow your mind. There is multiple pop-ups on most of the pages.
Communist primer;: The primary facts about criminal communism, and a review of William Z. Foster's "Toward soviet America." by J. W. Brinton
America needs a book like this today as a reminder that communists ruled from the left.
