Very disappointed. I have read many of McDermid's books but never before have I been so disappointed. Some harsh editing would not have hurt.
I had looked forward to reading this book. Disappointed to say the least. It is beyond me that this book has already been sold to over 30 countries. The authors do not succeed in holding together the many threads they try to spin at once. Using over 100 pages on a thread going back in time, explaining the "now" is beyond me. 10 would have sufficed. It is beyond me why the editor has not done a bit more of the editing thing. Writing a book with so many threads is not for beginners. Writing a book with many different figures is not for beginners. All of it needs more attention. A lot is missing in this book. A lot should never have been there in the first place. A paradox you might say, but as a reader who likes a good mystery with a good plot, I am disappointed. The plot is good, the work is poor.
An absoloutely fantabulous book with black&white photographs from Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Island.
A good book in many ways, but the "fictional" part of it I find hard to find credible.
A fantastic idea.
A fantastic idea.
Sweet memories, saw that movie so many times with Kristín my childhood friend. Strange seeing it again, but I am told it is a cult-movie by now.
Well, I can understand how anyone would feel tempted to write a story like this one. The result is not too good and the translation is not too good and the proof-reader needs to get another job, absolutely horrifying.
All in all a wonderful feel-good movie. But! portraying a person and the change of how they look is a difficult thing, too difficult for the person's in charge of that department here.
I was actually somewhat disappointed. The first part of the book works well, but the further along I got, the feeling got stronger; feeling of a good writing project gone a bit wrong.
It's been a long time, but there were several important truths in this book, still are.
I still remember how thrilled I was when I got my hands on this book - the first book by Minette Walters that I read.
Most of her books are really good, this one is.

All my favourite french actresses gathered in a wonderful film - A FILM YOU MUST SEE.
Wonderful idea, quite original but the author does not carry it through. But keep in mind that this is a debut-novel. There are quite a few passages that we could have done without, they are in way filling-out material. I look forward to the authors next book, has got potential.
An absolutely wonderful collection of short stories. Willumsen paints many different portraits with words. She renders them, as always, in a superb way. You know exactly who or what kind of person she is writing about in each story - their surroundings, their language, their sociolect. Fascinating ability.
This is the Icelandic translation - Vilhjálmur Stefánsson Sjálfsævisaga
Some wonderful thoughts on time and how we use it.
We do not gamble in this household, but we love playing games.
A film that really does have a message concerning men that abuse their spouses.
Food, glorious food. Well, and other stimulating stuff. A film about a woman that has problems with feelings, with love - and a man that helps her solve these issues.
Wonderful film, extraordinary music and musicians. Thank you Wim Wenders, for bringing them to us before it was too late.
Few playwrights can reveal the shortcomings of the human race as Mr. Albee. How cruel we can be. The hatred we can muster. But also the loneliness, the helplessness.
