I am so in love with the boy in this novel... I have never ever read a book that has given me such a clear picture of a caracter like Rosenløw Eeg does in Yatzy. I know excatly what Daggi looks like, and he even looks a bit like Lewis in The Outcast too....
One of the most grotesque books you'll ever read - the truth is the most morbid thing on earth. And this book teach you nothing but the truth. You'll see the world through a totally different perspective after finishing this book. And I highly recommend it - it IS worth it.
When you pick up this book and read the first word, you are lost in James' world through his time at rehab. Meaningful and funny and sad and alive and true and painful.
You'll have such a laugh reading this book. Okay, so they're in a mental institution in the 70's. But that doesn't stop anyone from having any fun :) I think this book gives people a different view of how mental institutions can be...
Odin is a suicidal and well-known millionaire psychiatrist with a tattoo that says: I love you Mom all over his wide chest. Formel is a math genius who is highly appreciated by the mathematicians at the Universe at Blindern, Formel carries a dirty cloth everywhere he goes, he has to wipe away his brain juice of course, it constantly runs down from the top of his head (he's afraid all his brain juice will run out soon). Tussi has almost washed away all his skin on his hands, and when he tries to drown himself in the lake, he always floats back up. When one of the new doctors takes him to a laboratory to see how few and friendly all the bacterias on our skin are, he freaks out and washes even more of his skin away. Hayna thinks eating one egg a day is more than enough calories for the day (it IS 80 calories, of course that's enough).
Despite all their despair and pain and illness, everyone are able to find meaning in being at this institution, Varden. And they're able to find laughter and fun and life. And so are the readers.
The best book I've ever read, besides Fall on your knees and Før du sovner. I am so in love with the boy in this book. You are taken in to his head and you're able to read all his thought through Jones' words. His loneliness is mine, his pain is mine, his love is mine, his confusion is mine, his happiness is mine.

I Love every well spoken, well written word in this book. I live in it still, it's haunting me still, tempting me, loving me, sees me still. I carry it everywhere I go. I read parts of it over and over again. Every time I open it, it rips out my soul, and it seems I like it.

Need to quote my favourite paragraph:
"I see you. You think you're dark, and there's all this darkness around you, but when I look at you ... you're like a shining thing. You're light. You just are. You always were." (Kit says this to Lewis)
