The book goes through Esperanza coming of age through her experiences of coming to American and being an immigrant.

This is a good book about acceptance as well as friendship.
This is a picture book about a lion. He finds a bird one day and helps bring the bird back to health. They then spend time together and through the seasons the lion takes care of the bird. The bird then has to leave when it is time to be back with his flock and he feels better. The lion feels deeply sad that his new friend leaves. In the end of the book the bird ends up coming back to spend time with the lion.
