Started well but seemed to loose steam towards the end, not a satisfying conclusion
A cute little book about a family that have lost their father who is accused of being a spy. They go back to an island in the outer Hebrides and the boy believes his father has come back as a bear to find him.
a really cute little book with a cool idea - I like to think of men on ladders moving around the city at night.
Good idea, but main character got a little wearing as she seemed so oblivious to the needs and thoughts of others. The lake monster seemed nice.
Interesting story about how WWII affected Romania and the privileged families there through the eyes of a deaf boy. Well written and nice how he spoke through pictures.
Good beginning but begins to get implausible when he moves to South Africa and the coincidences start to build up. Bit of a weak ending but nice story overall.
clever detective novel thou a bit unrealistic about the role a woman could have in this. Nice twist at the end and hard to tell where history stopped and the novel began.
cute little story with a sad ending. really nice to see the supernatural included as part of the real world, but couldn't quite figure out where it was set.
really long and lots of characters to remember, but a good picture of what it was like at that time.
Some good bits, nice description of the blind masseuse knowing the countries the woman had visited.
Set in San Francisco, cool description of the old bookstore contrasted to the new technology at google. Lost a bit of momentum at the end but interesting puzzle.
Imagine: What Wedgewood, Da Vinci, Mozart, Eiffel, Disney (and many others) Can Teach Us by Ian M.L. Hunter
Really interesting case studies for the 7 pillars of creativity. Got a bit slow towards the end - persistence. Nice to see something written by a New Zealander.
Good but a slow rambling start, hard to follow. Nice how each generation got it's own story and set in NZ.
Really sweet story about a love affair caught in a game of sorcery within a circus. Beautiful descriptions of magic that could be real.
Really clever plot about the last girl left in the world walking thru antartica. people she knows who have died are left in a city as long as she remembers them, however the city is shrinking as she freezes.
Interesting, seemed a bit broad in places and didn't address exceptions to the rule.
Interwoven short stories following an event where all pain shines with light. A journal of daily love notes written by a husband to his wife follows each character, becoming more worn until it is destroyed. Very nice writing but sometimes a but dense and couldn't finish th self harm story.
