test (posting as a user who isn't member of any group)

Hi Sunnytest - yes, it's here. I thought that all members were automatically members of the seven Standing groups - or perhaps that doesn't work the same way???

Test was to check if ryn_books had found the reason for the loose newbie posts.

I think anyone can post to any group that doesn't require membership for posting. For example, there are several groups that I "watch" (as opposed to joining them), and I have posted to them.

I think it may be caused by clicking on "post new topic" when NOT on the home page of a group.
