I just looked at my library in cover view, which I haven't done for a while, and all the titles are way down at the bottom of the default covers, and often the end of the title is all the way off. I can't say how long it has been doing this, since I haven't used that view lately.

Safari 3.2.1 on OSX 10.4.11. I'll check it tomorrow at work on the Windows machine.

This has been happening with my cover view for ages - I first mentioned it here : message #8 (over a month ago): http://www.librarything.com/topic/54083
and also here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/56048

It still hasn't been fixed, and I don't know if it has anything to do with collections - but I hate it, as I use my cover view all the time, and it drives me crazy as I often end up with the wrong book work page due to this misalignment!

I would love it to be fixed!

ETA: XP FF3

I'd love to see this fixed.

Sheesh. Here at work (WinXP/IE6) the titles are misaligned to the upper left corner of the cover.

Win XP pro, Firefox 3.0 titles misaligned to the bottom left corner!

I've been swpping back and forth between my laptop and main machine this week to enter new titles.

Laptop: XP and IE - alignment fine
Same LT view
Main PC: XP and Firefox - misaligned with text start at the bottom of the icon.

Is this still happening for you guys?
In my cover view, when I click on it, the rectangle is placed so inferior that the word 'info' is placed at the bottom of the cover rectangle!!!

I'm still wishing for a fix!!!!

It's still happening for me as well.

It is still happening - obviously it is of no matter to anyone with powers to fix; or even acknowledge! I wonder why?

I am going to keep yammering on about it...

...once a week? What do you all think?

14staffordcastle
Mar 5, 2009, 1:47 pm

Yeah, sounds good. They are probably running around like crazy getting Collections off the ground, so maybe after that (and the concomitant period of de-bugging) they'll have time to attend to it.

I now realize I am having the same problem. My settings are the same as Staffordcastle's.

Thanks,

It's also happening in Firefox 1.0.7 on Mac OSX 10.4.

20lorax
Mar 20, 2009, 1:16 pm

Is that a typo, staffordcastle, or are you really still using FF 1?

21staffordcastle
Mar 20, 2009, 1:55 pm

Yep, really using FF1. Never got around to upgrading, as I don't use it much - I prefer Safari as it just looks cleaner.

Looking back over this thread, it looks like we only have one report of things looking right: kevmalone on his laptop in IE though not his desktop in FF. Very curious. Anybody else want to say theirs looks the way it should?

I'm on IE6/XP and the title is off-set toward the upper left corner, but it doesn't affect readability or functionality. (The typeface and colour certainly don't enhance readability, but that is a completely different issue.)

The "pop-up" rectangle centres almost perfectly; no problems there.

I've never noticed any problems with WinXP/IE6 or Vista/IE7 (or WinXP/IE7, for that matter.) Text is vertically aligned to the top and center-justified, though slightly offset to the left.

A-HA! It seems to depend on what size of covers you're viewing! I almost always view the biggest possible cover size, which looks fine. However, as the cover size decreases, the text moves farther left, to the point where, at the smallest size, the text is practically centered on the left-hand edge of the image!

Huh...interesting! In my FF3.0.7/XP, the titles and authors are perfectly visible (a little low - the first line starts at the center of the cover - but readable) at the largest size. It looks like, thereafter, the distance from the top of the cover to the first line remains the same as I go down in size - which means that two sizes down the author has generally fallen off the bottom, and by the two smallest sizes it's all off the cover.

In IE7.0.5730/XP, the titles are slightly high and noticeably over to the left - except for the largest size, where it's just slightly left of center and still slightly high.

And in all, the popup rectangle you get when you click is centered at the same place as the title/author - right off the book in the smaller sizes in FF, that is.

25krazy4katz

That is interesting. From larger to smaller, they are all off by at least 50%, but at the smallest size, they are displaced by 100%.

Mine are all over the shop - upper row goes higher, the bottom lower and in between... well. And you can get two up at once (though for different books - the one above I think) by clicking in a different part of the one cover! And just now I went to click on 'next page' at the bottom and I got a cover 'info' view. This is using large-sized icons on FF 3.0.0.7/ XP...and I couldn't use the 'next page' link; had to either go to the top or use the numbers.

The other thing I have noticed is if you click on the cover and get the misaligned information it won't go away! Before if you clicked on it, and then clicked again it went back to showing just the cover - not now!

Seeing as this has been happening for three months now (since we first posted originally) it is getting very annoying!

It's happening on my machine with OSX 10.5.6 in Firefox 3.0.7, Safari 3.2.1, and Opera 9.63.

I, too, am having this issue, in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I use cover view all the time, and the text is so off-center that it's become practically unusable. Could we get some attention on this issue, please?? It's a major functionality problem, imho

Do you think it would be rude to email someone? Wouldn't want to be too pushy, particularly since the excellent people here at LT are probably hard at work on other things. On the other hand, it is getting pretty annoying...

I was wondering that too... I thought to wait until after Collections come out - as long as that isn't too long now - and see if it is fixed with that. At least they may have more time (if there aren't too many bugs to fix) after that behemoth has landed!

Watchya think?

I think that this will probably have to wait for a few more days at least. Tim and I are going to be busy doing collections stuff for a little longer. If we can get Mike or Luke finished with what they are doing then they might be able to fix it in the meantime.

Thanks very much for letting us know.

I mentioned this a long time ago here as well. The real annoying aspect was that you could not use the "next" link at the bottom of the page because a textlink box from the book above covered it.
But, I bring a survivor's hint until they fix this: hover over the word "next" with the cursor, you might be able to find a sweet spot where the text box does not cover the next link, and you get a hand cursor, and you can click to next page. This works 95% of the time for me. Alas, the other 5% of the time, there is no sweet spot, and I have to scroll up to the top of the page to hit the "next" link.

Tonight's code push has resolved some of the issues I've been having with FF3/XP.

I think it is fixed!!!! Well, it is for me now - with small images too!!!!!!

Note: I say think as I don't want to jinx anyone - ME in particular.

Thank you, whoever found time to fix it - it is just lovely to have this back working.

MUCH improved! On both XP/IE6 and Safari/OSX 10.4 the titles are now back at the top of the cover, though not centered - they are to the left of center as far as the longest line will go.
