Hi! Just worked on chess authors ...

People/Characters: Viktor Korchnoi now shows three works . There a selfreference author link is added intentionaly (because of http://www.librarything.com/topic/96122 please add an input fields to author pages in order to indicate them as LT characters ).

I noticed that Korchnoi's picture is not listed in the gallery. If you add the usual &norefer=1&all=1 to the available author url "korchnoisviktor" you will see it is not a top level one.

This behaviour is not a caching issue because the picture http://www.librarything.com/pic/140927 was uploaded long time ago : Picture uploaded by alibrarian on Apr 2, 2007.

----

One can experience caching at People/Characters: Bent Larsen where no picture is visible at the top level author url : I just added there a picture.

fixed typos

The second example might not relate to caching; it might relate to a (job) queue.

Sorry, but I can't understand paragraphs one and two. Help?

On the People/Character page http://www.librarything.com/character/Viktor+Korchnoi, the third author picture is missing, although when you click on it, the author page http://www.librarything.com/author/korchnoivictor has a picture.

This is perhaps because the book on the People/Character page that's listed by Victor Korchnoi is actually listed by "Victor Korchnois" (with an s), and the author page http://www.librarything.com/author/korchnoisviktor&norefer=1 doesn't have a picture.

It's odd that the author picture on the bottom of the People/Character page lists the top level author (by name and URL), but doesn't get the picture from the top level author page.

On the Bent Larsen People/Character page http://www.librarything.com/character/Bent+Larsen, the second author listed is Bent Larsen -- without a picture even though there's a picture on his author page (http://www.librarything.com/author/larsenbent).

This is possibly just a caching issue, since the picture was just uploaded recently - but how long does it take?

A more illustrative example: All authors from Series: Nobel Prize library have a picture at their "top level author url'. At the series today four author pictures are not shown. The reason is / might be that works are linked to combined author urls / second level author urls.

Fixed. Series weren't using the new image system.

Thanks!

On the Bent Larsen People/Character page http://www.librarything.com/character/Bent+Larsen, the second author (Bent Larsen) is now correctly showing a photo, but the third author (Andrew Soltis) is showing the same photo.

On the http://www.librarything.com/series/Nobel+Prize+library page, there are two photos of Ernest Hemingway in a row, the second one for the "author" "Nobel Prize Library" who shouldn't have a photo.

>9 r.orrison:: Note written in a hurry: at Series: Nobel Prize library a lot of cross author work combinations happened; more to come. I do not know if this is influencing the selection of picture. (there seems to be a roule: "The dominant author owns the work". - What roule relates to oictures?)

No, I think it's a bug in the fix that's causing it not to use the default picture for authors that don't have a picture; it's just using the last one it found when it can't find one. See also http://www.librarything.com/topic/100963
