Hi! This report is about the presence of browser metacharacters in LT record fields and their display at /details/ pages, in catalog etc.
This happened a few weeks ago: Please take a look at http://www.librarything.com/work/6246096/editions Please note the "< Die neuentstehende welt >" variants at some of the editions.
I sow the "< Die neuentstehende welt >" title part which is using browser metacharacters a while ago at http://www.librarything.com/work/book/56612828 but suddently it disapeared after an edit; I could sware it was still there when trying to edit the recortd again but caching might be invloved.
How to reproduce / test:
some records can be imported via data source OverCat using as searchstring
world in the making, Keyserling
The third records shows:
The world in the making < Die neuentstehende welt > by Graf von Hermann Keyserling (1927).
from Oregon State University; public archives "3 alternate records"
I imported it and it showed up properly:
Title: The world in the making < Die neuentstehende welt >
Summary: The world in the making < Die neuentstehende welt > by Graf von Hermann Keyserling (1927)
However when editing http://www.librarything.com/work/details/65913329 few minutes later "< Die neuentstehende welt > " was still present after the edit.
No clue how this might relate to http://www.librarything.com/topic/100527 .
Please pay attention about similar cases. Thanks!
P.S. I reedited this post. Some parts of the original post where using escaped html entities &+lt; and &+gt;. The part of the post which is now italic was not visible at the original post.

1> I can't reproduce this. I followed your instructions, but the "editing" you refer to is vague. So I edited it to change the title to just "The world in the making". I have no idea if that's the edit you made. After that, the title showed "The world in the making" as I expected. Is this what you did or was it something different? Please provide an exact way to reproduce it.

I think g is referring to actually using around a word. I've noticed this before. It's a tough problem insofar as this is how HTML designates tags.
