I'm starting today's thread early as I'm probably going to get a bit of a later start. .
On the agenda today is Angelology, finishing March, and Siddartha. . .

Ooh... waiting to hear what you think of Siddhartha.
I'm going to try and join this readathon today .... keeping my fingers crossed that nothing pops up to demand my attention away from reading or requiring me to leave the house.
Off to choose my books....

Stasia and I started an impromptu early morning readathon at 2 am. I read until 6 am, and finished the last 257 pages of Blonde Roots and the first 68 pages of The Flying Troutmans in that time.
I'm going to make lunch shortly, hopefully go back to sleep for a few hours, and then resume reading The Flying Troutmans. If I finish it I'll probably start Where We Know: New Orleans As Home by David Rutledge, an LT Early Reviewer book I received last week.

Oh good, you started a readathon. I was about to start one so glad I looked first.
I'm home after shopping etc.Spent about a half hour at Starbucks reading a few more entries in From Altoids to Zima.
About to start A Novel Bookstore by Laurence Cosse. While I've got the Packers/Vikings game on.

I have a few other things to do today, but I always like to get a nice chunk of reading in on Sunday. I'm currently reading The Last Child. It's another dark mystery, set in North Carolina and I'm really enjoying it. Hope to knock out a few pages of my graphic too, which is The Contract With God.
Happy reading, everyone!

> #6 - Waffles.... Yumm!
> #7 - Darryl - I loved The Flying Troutmans when I read it. Thebes is such a delightful character!
So far today I have read 20 pages of A Tangled Web, by L. M. Montgomery, putting me at page 72 in the book. Getting more comfortable with the large cast of characters that comprise the family clan. Off for more coffee and more reading.

I read a lot of Our Kind of Traitor, the new John le Carré but have to go out to do some errands now.
12LauraBrook
Just getting ready to run a few errands with an audiobook, then it's back home to do some work (boo!) that's due tonight. Hopefully I can finish up early enough to actually sit and participate this Sunday without falling asleep. (Why are my Sundays so stinking busy?!?) See you all later!

It's already Monday here, but I'll try to read along in a couple of hours after gym and running a few errands. So far this morning I've read an enchanting children's book, The Naming of Tishkin Silk as it was very overdue at the library. Today I want to get further into Elsewhere, perhaps which I keep putting aside due to the tiny font size.
14swynn
Hooray! For once I found the readathon before it's over. I'll be reading Christopher Chabris's and Daniel Simons's The Invisible Gorilla.

#6 : LOL ....err, Tam? Today's Sunday ... so much for limiting yourself to reading LT threads to weekdays/workdays? hee heee. ;-) Or do you mean you limit the time you read threads to mere hours on weekdays/workdays ... oh, unless you are working today ...
I actually hit the gym for a while today and grabbed a book so I could still do the readathon. So far, I've read 135 pages of The Language of Threads by Gail Tsukiyama, a sequel to Women of the Silk and I'm loving it as much as the first book so far. I can't wait to finish it, and at the same time, I don't want to rush the experience. I'm also savoring this because it's the last Tsukiyama book for me as I've read all her other ones.

Hurrah, here I am! (Caro bullied me into joining in...)
I'm finishing American Subversive now, not sure what I'll pick up next. Maybe The Dangerous Otto Katz or The Last Day, or maybe something light and fluffy. Although right now Cassie the kitten (well, a very large grown up kitten) has decided to curl up and sleep on the Kindle, so a process of negotiation may be required. Oh, I also need to catch up on my 1010 and off-the-shelf challenges, so that's a biography of Danton, Cyber War or The Lost City of Z. Whew. So many choices, so little time...

I just finished the fifth chapter of The Flying Troutmans, which I started earlier this morning, and I'm on page 84. I agree with Lori; I'm loving it so far! Thebes is a fantastic character, especially when she channels her inner Chuck D from Public Enemy, and her older brother Logan ("I am the wrath of Christ") is a riot, as well.

5 pm update: I'm on page 151 of The Flying Troutmans, and still loving it.

Hi guys! Sorry for my lack of check in- I guess I'm not doing very well at the reading today. . lol! I was going to do my TDay shopping tomorrow before work but I was talking to Grant about it and he wanted to go with me- so I filled out my list and we went shopping and then at 5 the Mr. was hungry so we got some dinner. At any rate I'm back and settling in to read some more. :)
Caro- I limit the time I read threads to mere hours on weekdays/workdays ... well- I try anyway!
On the Thanksgiving menu is:
Tofurky
Mashed potatoes
stuffing
cranberry sauce
squash and chickpea bake
crescent rolls
peas
Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie
I'm probably forgetting something. . .
I also got sugar cookies to make and decorate- just cause I've wanted to do that for a while. :)

I've just finished The Language of Threads by Gail Tsukiyama and absolutely loved it. It's a sequel to The Women of Silk. The story continues with Pei and Ji Shen fleeing China to Hong Kong because of the Japanese occupation. There they start to build a new life for themselves. Pei's strength and resilience is put to the test many times over as she learns how to fend for herself and then look after Ji Shen in this new world, taking on new work as a laundress, a domestic helper and later on a seamstress. As the Japanese bomb Hong Kong, round up the British into POW camps in Stanley, life becomes even more difficult, with food shortages and avoiding the Japanese soldiers and Triads. But the silver lining is the silk sisters have managed to gather together once more, this time, to live together once more and pool their resources for their survival.
It's the 2nd book in a month where I've read about the cruel atrocities inflicted on their victims and it's difficult to think that those individuals are ancestors to current day Japanese, who are fun, reserved, and mostly kind and considerate.
Narratives told from the perspective of Pei, Ji Shen, Li (Pei's sister), Mrs Finch (a British employer), Song Lee (a silk sister), and a few other characters, this is a book that's hard to put down once you get started on it.
5 stars. Definitely a re-read for me in the future.

Squash and chickpea bake sounds intriguing. Anything and chickpeas sounds intriguing. Mmmm, garbanzos.
With a couple of interruptions, I'm breaking for supper, after which I'll read the last 20 pages of "The invisible gorilla" then begin Ed McBain's The Pusher before "The Walking Dead" starts. Mmmm, brains.

I just finished The Flying Troutmans, which was a great read. Next up will by Pereira Declares by Antonio Tabucchi, a shared TIOLI read.
So far I've read 257 + 274 = 531 pages since 2 am, making this easily the most number of pages I've read in a single day this year.
I'll take a break for dinner, call my parents, and possibly take an overdue nap.

What's tofurky, Tam? Since the only item I see missing from your menu is a turkey, either you've had an odd spelling accident, or it's a form of turkey that is meatless?
Sorry you had some interruptions to your readathon, but hey...getting food and then eating dinner are both important activities. *what did you have for dinner - curious stomachs want to know* And you're settling down for some reading time now anyway.

Finished American Subversive and am now reading Cyber War. Though I think I may have to switch to something lighter soon...

I cheated and ordered Chinese delivery so I can continue with the readathon. :-)
I think I'll start on The Anodyne Necklace by Martha Grimes. I've read positive reviews of Ms Grimes here on LT and found this copy at a used bookstore a few months ago so it'll be my first introduction to her Inspector Richard Jury series.

I admit I defected from the readathon to go and listen to last night of the proms music and seek out some stuff by Frederica von Stade on YouTube. (check Stasia's thread for what I unearthed...) Now, tuna melt in hand, I can return to my reading...

4 PM (Pacific Time) update:
Not doing as well on the reading front as planned - so far I have only read 52 pages today of A Tangled Web... I am still captivated by it but laundry took up more time than planned. Good news is I can now sit back with a glass a wine for another hour and continue reading before I start to prepare dinner.
Darryl - glad to hear The Flying Troutmans was a hit!
cameling - adding Gail Tsukiyama as a 'new to me' author to be TBR pile.

Tofurky is a meatless Soy meat roll with stuffing that you bake in the oven and honestly- I can't really tell a difference between that and real turkey- We had burgers and fries- I've been a very strict vegetarian for over a year but after some observation of some recent health issues (mostly blood sugar/shakes etc) I decided I need to eat more protein and focus on the amount of sugar I'm in-taking. . I'm going to primarily eat vegetarian but I guess this means I'm flexitarian? I'm going to focus on eating egg whites and fish. Occasional other proteins are ok but I still limit these severely. .

I read A Novel Bookstore for awhile before I fell asleep watching football, as is my usual. Woke up and read some more and then ate dinner.
I've read about 75 pages of this book. Not my usual but I think I'll stick with it.

#28 : I'm sure you won't regret adding Gail Tsukiyama to the list of must-read authors, Lori. In fact, I'm so certain that if you read her books and find you loathe them, Darryl will go on a 3 month book-buying ban.
32swynn
#24: For dinner, a new-to-me recipe: "Dawn's Sirloin No-Bean Chili" from Phyllis Pellman Good's Fix-It and Forget-It Lightly over brown rice. It's not bad, but not going into continuous replay either.
33lkernagh
# 31: Thanks cameling. I quickly checked my local library and they appear to have all of Gail Tsukiyama's book so I have placed a hold on her debut novel The Women of Silk. Darryl, I think you are safe from cameling's '3 month book-buying ban'. Women of the Silk looks really intriguing!
I have made better progress over the past hour, finishing another 48 pages of A Tangled Web.
Have started preparing dinner - comfort food tonight in the form of Shepard's pie to take the chill off the cold weather - and hope to get in some more reading while the potatoes cook.

mmmm...I love Shepard's Pie.
I've just done 53 pages from The Anodyne Necklace and so far so good. I'm glad I picked something relatively light for my 2nd book for today's readathon because it's starting to get late and watching football at the same time, I'm not sure I'll be able to finish this tonight.

From comfort food to comfort reading -- I have shifted to Minding Frankie, bought with a gift certificate from Amazon.co.uk last month. After the last few intense books, I'm happy to switch to something with reasonably happy endings guaranteed. Then I'll go back to reading about cyber warfare and Soviet spies... Since I've been doing some of my reading on my Kindle, I can't gauge how many pages, but probably somewhere around 500.
36cameling
I did get to finish The Anodyne Necklace by Martha Grimes and I think this is the start of a new series for me.
And thus ends my readathon for today. 2 books completed. And now I take myself to bed. :-) Thanks all for allowing me to join you in this delightful day.

*BIG sigh*
No real reading done for me so far today. I did finally get my project done for work, then had my 2 girlfriends over for Girls Night. They left about an hour ago and I've just been putzing around, blowing out candles, taking out the garbage, etc. Getting ready to shut this baby down and read a little Still Life before I fall asleep on the couch.
I did finish The Disappearing Spoon earlier this afternoon, though, so I guess that does count! I listened to the last 4 hours while I was working. Huh - more reading got done than I remembered! It's been a long day, so if I read more than a chapter in Ms. Penny's book I'll be surprised.
Good night all!

I've managed to read 60 pages of The Ghosts of Iron Bottom Sound, a children's book about the Battle of Savo Island, which was part of the WW2 Guadalcanal naval battle. Also read 60 pages of Elsewhere, perhaps which is set on a kibbutz in the 1960s, enjoying Amos Oz's way with words, he never fails to impress.
I'll probably pick up Day after night for my nighttime read. All these books are TIOLI and 1010 challenge reads.

I managed to read about half of A Novel Bookstore yesterday. Okay, but not great--I don't much care for literary fiction but it is about books so I will carry on for awhile--til the end.
40leperdbunny
Really Linda? I loved it! Mebbe I'm weird? I like literary fiction even though I didn't recognize most of the titles mentioned.

#40 More likely, it's me. Just about everyone I've heard of loved A Novel Bookstore. I don't hate it but I don't love it either.
