Since not everyone has read all the way to the end of the 500+ New search thread, I am repeating this announcement:
I have made a new browser search plugin for the new search. Go to this page:
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name=librarything&author=Deb+M...
And click on the last one, with the green N icon (that's the new one).
This will install the new LT search in your search bar (if you use Firefox, Chrome, or a relatively up-to-date version of IE 7+), so that you can search straight from there, without having to load LT first. This page has a basic explanation and some screenshots.
Hopefully, it will eventually make it to the More tab in Widgets and Extensions so that installing the right one isn't quite as confusing.

Nice. Thanks.

Thank you, I just found this plugin and put it to good use already (adding books).
Is there any chance to make the plugin country-domain specific? Currently it uses the English Librarything which means switching domains/another log-in procedure for all non-English Librarythingers (I use the German domain 99.5% of the time).

The original post is 3 1/2 years old, I'm not sure how much action you're going to get on this.

OP hasn't been on the site for over 2 years, looks like, so yeah, don't think they're gonna answer.

You can modify the script yourself. Close your browser, and go into the directory these plugins are stored (for Firefox, it's your user profile). You'll find the librarything-works.xml (assuming that's the one you installed). Open it with a basic text editor -- Notepad or BBEdit work great, but Microsoft Word is probably a bit much -- and change two places:
* Inside the SearchForm tags, change www.librarything.com to what you want (www.librarything.de for German).
* In the os:Url tag, change the template address of www.librarything.com to what you want.
Save it and you should be good to go. You can have multiple versions of the search engines, so consider saving your updated version as librarything-works-DE.xml. If you do this, you should also change the ShortName tag to differentiate the versions (for example, this new one might be "LibraryThing works DE"). The short name is what shows up in the search box.

The URL you posted for "User profile", which links to the Mozilla knowledge base, looks to be broken - I got " ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved
(110) Connection timed out"
Do you have an updated reference for to help us with this?
Also, - thank you for taking to the time to help us!

Hmmm.... link seems to be working for me. But here's the quick version for finding your Firefox profile:
(Also, I seem to have forgotten to mention these search plugins are stored, appropriately enough, in the /searchplugins folder inside the user folder.)
Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7/8:
* Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run box
* In the Run box, type in %APPDATA%
* Click OK. A Windows Explorer window will appear.
* In this window, choose Mozilla → Firefox → Profiles.
* You'll see some random letters and numbers; each of these is a separate profile folder, although many people only have one folder. Open the folder that has the newest dates.
Linux:
~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile folder>
(note that .mozilla is a hidden folder, so you may have to select View | All Folders in your shell)
Mac
Profile folders are in one of these locations:
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
The tilde character (~) refers to the current user's Home folder, so ~/Library is the /Macintosh HD/Users/<username>/Library folder.

The other way to get to your Profile folder is - in Firefox (on Windows, not sure about others), go to Help (it may be under the orange button, if you don't have menus showing). Choose Troubleshooting Information. There's a button (about 5 lines down the gray chart) labeled Show Folder - the line is labeled Profile Folder. Click that and your active profile folder will open in Windows Explorer (or equivalent).

When I search using the search plugins,
it returns logged out of librarything to http://www.librarything.com/...
How can I force it into login mode?
I tried changing all http://www.librarything.com/... addresses to https://www.librarything.com/...
with no luck

Search plugins don't really log in or out of web sites; they generally just use whatever session state the browser is currently in. Do you log out of LT on a regular basis?
Or are you saying you want to search just your catalog with the plugin? If so, you'd need a different URL:
http://www.librarything.com/catalog/Tumler100&deepsearch={searchTerms}

I usually log out when leaving, and on again upon restart or upon opening the browser (firefox) in the first LibraryThing tab.
If I am logged in at librarything (as I am now) and ctrl-click on Home, then my LibraryThing Home page opens (looged in). Chosing the search bar plugin: "LibraryThing - Authors" and type Czerneda in the search window leads to the LibraryThing Author search page, with suggestions, and logged out.
in the address field adding https:// in front of: www.librarything.com/search.php?term=czerneda&searchtype=authorname
returns the same page, logged in.

Are you using a language-specific version? Your location field says Norway, so you may be logged in to http://no.librarything.com/ rather than the English-language http://www.librarything.com -- you can be logged in to both, but you have to log in to each language site separately. (Apologies if you already know this, but just making sure.)
Otherwise, I really don't have an answer. There shouldn't be any difference between http and https (aside from the obvious security bump) -- if you're logged in to one, you should be logged into the other.
