Gee, I wish they'd done things like that when I was in school!

Instantly made me think of And Ladies of the Club. Whopper of a historical that I really enjoyed; the central characters are a group of ladies who do exactly that. Oh, for a cozy corner, a good cuppa, and about a month to read it uninterrupted!

Has anyone been to a bookstore that specializes in tea?

The library had a tea party birthday celebration for Beatrix Potter friday. It was all ages; the youngest (but one) celebrating her third birthday the same day.
We were encouraged to dress up.
I was given credit for the original inspiration for the event, having had conversation with Shelley, one of the librarians.

Met Cecilia, recently from Cambodia and going to college here this fall. Cecilia was dressed as Mister McGregor. She told about being in a Potter ballet in Cambodia.

The librarians are my kind of people. One of them brought her two extensive sets of tea china. They served rolls and other pastries and petit fours. They had a large fabric mural of McGregor’s garden on the wall and props for the children to have their photos taken.

They had a table of Potter books and I brought my non-fiction collection about her art and farming.

The film Miss Potter was shown, but allowing the young ones to still party in their own way. I had not seen the film before. Beautiful film. Well done!

I sat on the floor and read The Tale of Miss Moppet to some little girls. Miss Moppet bangs her head on the cupboard, so I gestured to the bruise on one of the girl’s forehead. That led to a beautiful conversation about it being a birth mark and being her mother’s favorite color - blue.

I realized that the garden scene is basically what I am aiming for in my own yard. It’s nice to have it so usefully drawn out!

>6 2wonderY: How much fun! I liked my library ladies growing up, but that was way before the day of scheduled events.

The Sunday before Christmas, I throw a Tea and Cocoa Day for my fifth and sixth graders. Nothing too fancy, and the cocoa side always wins, but it's fun to bring my little wooden chest of bags and let them prowl and sample. One year, for a giggle, I brought lapsang souchong, and the next Christmas, one of my sixth grade boys specifically asked me to bring him "that bacon tea."

>7 gmathis: Don’t you love boys that quietly pay attention? I was reading a book to middle schoolers a chunk a week. When I asked at the beginning of a session where we had left off, one boy vividly described the scene.

My youngest grand also always wants hot chocolate. Now required with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles, if you please.
