There doesn't seem to be any way for members to upload photos to groups, even if the group creator has checked the option to allow it.

Okay, can you join the Mainers group and try to post an image?

I just did so, from my wife's account, and, lo, it worked. What am I not seeing?

Hmm, maybe it was just a miscommunication. The owner of the 75 Book Challenge group said he had enabled it (see profile comments of Dec. 8), but maybe it just didn't go through for whatever reason. I can add photos to the Maine group. Can you check whether 75 Book Challenge for 2010 is supposed to have photos enabled?

Okay, I'm going to look at 75 Book Challenge and see whether it's set right. Probably it's not being recorded right.

It seems to me that most (not all) of the groups to which I subscribe have lost the picture that they used to have. There is no indication that new images can be added. The post describing the new feature said that on Dec. 13th all groups would be set for members to be allowed to upload images - what was done on that day?

This group is allowing uploads and I have just successfully added an image. It appears that the latest image becomes the primary image (as usual) but I could not find any way to alter that. Can we have an edit button to restore the original primary image? Alternatively I think the admin's original primary image should remain as primary image by default.

I thought that all the groups were defaulting to allow any member to post images, yet I do not see that option for any of the groups of which I am a member (but did not create).

You should be able to click through to any of the group images and then click on "make primary picture".

>8 lilithcat: We've got the old primary picture back - did you move it, lilithcat? I still can't see how I could alter that. I wonder if you had the option as originator of the group? I am still not convinced that the group gallery is working just as our profile galleries.

I did. It may be that, as the originator, I'm the only one who can? I just assumed it was working like author/venue images, where anyone can select the primary image. But apparently not.

Update on why this isn't fixed yet (see http://www.librarything.com/topic/107331).
Must dig into, and must set group pics data as I said I would. (I delayed when it wasn't working for anyone.)

Okay:
1. All groups that didn't change their preferences are now open to other members adding images.
2. If the group-owner wants to take control back, they can.
3. Group images now default to non-primary.
4. I'm trying to track down why some groups lost their images. Unfortunately, wifi on this Acella sucks, so I think I'll have to leave it until later tonight.

Thank you, Tim. I owe you a pizza ;-)
.....although,...... there doesn't seem to be any way to add an image....
Am I being dense?

If you're being dense, so am I, because I can't find a way to do it, either!
I admit, however, that I probably shouldn't have had that second glass of Malbec . . .

I'm only on my first sip of red and I can't find it either! I can find where I can set permissions but not where I can set an actual picture.
More wine!

Make sure you are a member of a group.

Tim,
I am looking at the groups of which I am a member, and I do not see that, except on the pages of groups that I myself created.

I also cannot find that box in any of my groups except for:
http://www.librarything.com/groups/operaornobodyknowsth
It may be relevant that I have actually added one of the images on that group.
FWIW, only a few of the groups on my list have got back the images they used to have ;-(

Crambo is a group that used to have a group picture. I am a member, but not the creator. I can't see a group pictures box nor a group picture up near the description.

Okay, the opinion should now be there. Sorry this took so long. The basic problem was that there was an escape hatch allowing both admins and anyone on the admin server to change any group's image. So it was hard to see the problem...
Let the group-image uploading begin! (I suspect we'll have to soon figure out how to do votes on them, since people will disagree.)
Meanwhile, I'll look at Crambo.
