1. The Man God Uses by Henry and Tom Blackaby (1-3-11) (194 pages)

Inspirational book used for Bible Study class for the past couple of months.

To date: 1 book, 194 pages.

Edited: Nov 24, 2020, 11:46 am

2. The Source Of Magic by Piers Anthony (1-7-11) (326 pages)

Continuing, entertaining fantasy in the land of Xanth. Very much enjoying this series so far.

To date: 2 books, 520 pages.

Edited: Nov 24, 2020, 11:47 am

3. The Templar Legacy by Steve Berry (1-7-11) (511 pages)

Just average, and it's partly my fault because I was expecting the novel to take off story wise quicker than it did......and in the meantime I was subjected to massive historical facts (which I applaud Berry's research on) where I was more in the mood for character and plot development. The ending saved this book for me.

To date: 3 books, 1031 pages.

4. To Save America by Newt Gingrich (1-15-11) (332 pages)

Informative, straight-forward, hard-hitting, and a well-planned script for correcting some of the problems of this country. Really enjoyed this book.

To date: 4 books, 1363 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:54 pm

5. Heat Stroke by Rachel Caine (1-21-11) (336 pages)

Solid follow-up to Ill Wind...this one didn't grab me the way the first one did, but I enjoyed Joanne's adventures as a Djinn here. She returns to being human at the end, so it will be interesting to see where she goes from here.

To date: 5 books, 1699 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:55 pm

6. Decision Points by George W. Bush (1-27-11) (481 pages)

One of a handful of 5-star books I have read. Every American should read this book, whether you are Democrat, Republican, Conservative, Liberal, Independent, Tea-Party, PETA, whatever. I was riveted to this book.

To date: 6 books, 2180 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:56 pm

7. Sourcery by Terry Pratchett (2-9-11) (260 pages)

Not as funny as previous entries in the Discworld series, but still a hilarious yarn. Enjoyed seeing Rincewind again, as incompetent as he may be. I wonder if Coin the sourcerer will make a return?

To date: 7 books, 2440 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:56 pm

8. The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (2-10-11) (509 pages)

Intriguing, exciting, and the plot flowed very well. I love how Brown is able to point out existing things in our society and point out the relevance of their design and purpose (ex: how the monuments are positioned in Washington, D.C.). Langdon is not as prominent in this one as other Brown novels, but it made this book no less interesting to read.

To date: 8 books, 2949 pages.

9. New York Dead by Stuart Woods (2-14-11) (325 pages)

Fast, easy read. Nothing complicated or, quite frankly, redeeming in this, but just a popcorn book, if you will. Will probably read more Stone Barrington adventures in the future just for the escapism.

To date: 9 books, 3274 pages.

11utbw42
Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:57 pm

10. The Athena Project by Brad Thor (2-16-11) (322 pages)

Another quick read...this one falls in the middle of Thor books in terms of quality. The concept of an all-female Delta Force team was intriguing, but I found the characters somewhat thin and topical. Still fun to read, good escapism from the daily grind.

To date: 10 books, 3596 pages.

12utbw42
Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:57 pm

11. Dirt by Stuart Woods (2-20-11) (417 pages)

Another popcorn book....fun, fast, and filled with what they term as "naughty fun".

To date: 11 books, 4013 pages.

13utbw42
Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:58 pm

12. Blood Rites by Jim Butcher (2-25-11) (435 pages)

Excellent series. As this series continues, Dresden's character gets more and more interesting and complex, as well as the people and villians in his life. I think Dresden and Murphy will hook up in the future at some point, but only my opinion.

To date: 12 books, 4448 pages.

14utbw42
Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:58 pm

13. The Twelfth Imam by Joel. C. Rosenberg (2-28-11) (490 pages)

This was a fascinating work of fiction, because one could actually see these events taking place. A couple of liberties taken here and there, but this book kept me plastered to the pages. Tense!! Sequels are to follow, and I can't wait to get them. I think this book is extremely relevant due to the current state of the Middle East.

To date: 13 books, 4938 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:58 pm

14. Dead In The Water by Stuart Woods (3-4-11) (420 pages)

Keeps you guessing until the very end, and sets up nicely for Stone Barrington's next adventure. This is the best of the Barrington books I've read to date, and I love the fact that it takes place in the Caribbean.

To date: 14 books, 5358 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:59 pm

15. Crescent Dawn by Clive & Dirk Cussler (3-19-11) (548 pages)

Boooooooring.....worst Dirk Pitt book I've read. I should have put this down and read something else, but I stubbornly pushed through this. Bland story, bland characters, and bland writing. It's apparent that Dirk Cussler does the writing now with Clive reaping the royalties. Pity.

To date: 15 books, 5906 pages.

16. Radical by David Platt (3-24-11) (217 pages)

This book has changed my life. Another book that everyone on this planet should read. Awesome book...

To date: 16 books, 6123 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 1:59 pm

17. Swimming To Catalina by Stuart Woods (3-28-11) (391 pages)

Entertaining, but not as good as previous Stone Barrington novels. I like the resourcefulness of Stone in these novels, plus he bags all the hot babes.

To date: 17 books, 6514 pages.

19utbw42
Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 2:00 pm

18. Altar Of Eden by James Rollins (4-18-11) (492 pages)

Starts out great, but then the story and characters don't develop into what could have been an outstanding novel. Still made for an enjoyable read, but I couldn't help feeling when I was finished that this book could have been so much more.

To date: 18 books, 7006 pages.

19. Worst Fears Realized by Stuart Woods (4-22-11) (402 pages)

Best Stone Barrington yet. Moves quickly and Woods established a connection to the reader with his fringe characters as well here, plus Stone bags another babe or two. I liked the tension Woods created in this one.

To date: 19 books, 7408 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 2:02 pm

20. Pinheads And Patriots by Bill O'Reilly (4-26-11) (242 pages)

Well-written, well-balanced book about our current situation in this country and our current president. My only disagreement with this book is that O'Reilly was too soft on our current Follower-In-Chief.

To date: 20 books, 7650 pages.

21. The Tangle Box by Terry Brooks (5-10-11) (341 pages)

Another fun, imaginative entry in the Landover series. This series really draws its strengths from the characters, and I still love the concept of the kingdom of Landover.

To date: 21 books, 7991 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 2:02 pm

22. The Alexandria Link by Steve Berry (5-18-11) (494 pages)

Great plot, great characters, and I loved the way this book explored the history of the great religions of the world. I think this is the best of the Berry books I have read so far, and I am looking forward to upcoming Cotton Malone books.

To date: 22 books, 8485 pages.

23. Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo & Lynn Vincent (5-21-11) (157 pages)

Awesome, moving, spooky, and extremely uplifting. This book was so good I basically read it in one sitting (plus it was sort of short). The little boy's journey to heaven and back during a near-death experience will leave an impression on your mind that you will visit again and again. I recommend this book for anyone.

To date: 23 books, 8642 pages.

24. A Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin (5-27-11) (835 pages)

Outstanding book. The characters in this book are some of the strongest I've seen in a fantasy novel in years, probably even better than Jordan's WOT. Looking forward to the other novels in this series and am curious as to how they adapted this book to the HBO mini-series. If you like fantasy, you WILL like this book.

To date: 24 books, 9477 pages.

25. Edge Of Apocalypse by Tim LaHaye & Craig Parshall (6-2-11) (423 pages)

This book could almost be ripped right from today's headlines. I found some parallels between this book and Rosenberg's current political thriller series, which I also really am enjoying. I love it when talented authors present a fictional account of real world events occurring in End Times prophecy. I will continue to follow this series.

To date: 25 books, 9900 pages.

26. Catastrophe by Dick Morris & Eileen McGann (6-13-11) (312 pages)

First half of this book was great....informative, insightful, and intriguing. The second half read more like an Economics class textbook. I'm sure that excites some people, but not really me. Overall just an average book, and I expected a little more from Dick Morris.

To date: 26 books, 10212 pages.

27. Castle Roogna by Piers Anthony (6-14-11) (329 pages)

Wonderful story, mixing time paradoxes in with good fantasy characters. Anthony always has very imaginative people and places set in his world of Xanth. Looking forward to the next one in this series.

31. Chill Factor by Rachel Caine (6-29-11) (337 pages)

Great entry into this series.....Joanne is no longer a Djinn, but Caine somehow put her through the ringer in this book and she still seemed almost as powerful as before. This is one of the more imaginative series I've encountered recently.

To date: 31 books, 12041 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 2:07 pm

32. The Venetian Betrayal by Steve Berry (7-4-11) (550 pages)

Very interesting plot and deftly woven by Berry to combine current issues with the debate of where Alexander the Great was buried. I was just shy of considering this a great book due to the characters being slightly on the thin side in terms of development, but overall a good read and worth the time.

To date: 32 books, 12591 pages.

33. Hellhole by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson (7-18-11) (532 pages)

This was a fascinating read to me, and I've noted many reviews by people who thought this book was just average at best. Herbert and Anderson's writing style just really resonates with me, and I found this book easy to read, intriguing, and great escapism from the daily grind. I'm looking forward to the two sequels coming up to find out how the battle for the Deep Zone planets turns out. The Duchenet v. Adolphus saga to be continued......

34. Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett (7-20-11) (265 pages)

From the reviews I've read on this book, I should have enjoyed it a lot more than I did. I am disappointed in my effort on this book, perhaps a re-read someday. I just could not get into this book the way I have other Pratchett novels.

To date: 34 books, 13388 pages.

35. Full Black by Brad Thor (7-30-11) (379 pages)

By far the best Brad Thor book yet (even better than The Last Patriot), and one of the best books I've read in the past few years. This book mixes outstanding nail-biting suspense with spot-on descriptions of our nation and its issues in a way that just flows through the pages. I recommend this book to anyone.

36. The Charlemagne Pursuit by Steve Berry (8-4-11) (546 pages)

Among the best of the Berry books I've read so far. Cotton Malone to me is getting to be a more and more interesting character in his books, and this strength really meshes well with Berry's well-researched, well-planned plots. I hope Malone continues to grow as a character in future Berry novels.

37. Thunder Of Heaven by Tim LaHaye & Craig Parshall (8-10-11) (355 pages)

I love this series. Again, end times books fascinate me to no end, and this book delivers in a way not seen in other end times series. I really like how many of the events that occur behind the political scenes seem to mirror what is going on right now in America. Can't wait until the next one is released.....

38. Dead Beat by Jim Butcher (8-23-11) (513 pages)

Another great entry in the Dresden files. Butcher has found a way to make Harry encounter something different and unique in each volume of this series, all the while making Harry a more interesting, complex, and growing character at the same time. Very well done and very entertaining. Harry is becoming very powerful, and it will be very intriguing to see how he handles it.

39. The Paris Vendetta by Steve Berry (8-23-11) (479 pages)

Cotton Malone gets better and better with each entry by Berry in this series. Great story, tying current events into the life and times of Napoleon, and it was satisfying seeing an emerging Malone character react the way he did immersed in these elements.

To date: 39 books, 15660 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 2:10 pm

40. Centaur Aisle by Piers Anthony (8-31-11) (294 pages)

An enjoyable and sometimes slightly provocative entry into the Xanth series. Dor, Irene, Smash, and Grundy (and other characters) are fun to follow as they set out to rescue King Trent of Xanth in Mundania. I continue to be struck by how clever these novels are with the English language.

To date: 40 books, 15954 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 2:10 pm

41. The Devil Colony by James Rollins (9-1-11) (480 pages)

Rollins books get better and better and this by far was Rollins best. Great story, great characters (Rollins Sigma characters are fully developed and very interesting now), and the plot just flowed naturally through the pages. To me, Rollins is this generation's Michael Crichton, and I hope his good works continue.

To date: 41 books, 16434 pages.

42. The Mark Of The Assassin by Daniel Silva (9-3-11) (502 pages)

I've been wanting to read Silva's books for a while, and I'm glad I did. Exciting book, moved quick....great read. I'll be tearing into more Silva books in the future.

To date: 42 books, 16936 pages.

43. Men In Blue by W.E.B. Griffin (9-5-11) (340 pages)

Wonderful book....Griffin dives deep into the Philadelphia PD and produces a gutsy and real look at the inner workings during the trying times of a popular police captain dying in the line of duty. Could not put this one down.

To date: 43 books, 17276 pages.

44. Windfall by Rachel Caine (9-12-11) (330 pages)

This series is really picking up now, as Joanne Baldwin's world teeters on the brink of war between the Wardens and the Djinn. What will she do now without David? I'm sure the answers are in book 5 and beyond. Fun stuff....

45. Special Operations by W.E.B. Griffin (9-17-11) (356 pages)

This is the second in the Badge of Honor series and I blew through this one much like I did the first. Solid, hard-hitting, and grabs you from the start. Can't wait until the next one. Matt Payne is the rising star in this series.

To date: 45 books, 17962 pages.

Edited: Dec 22, 2020, 2:12 pm

46. Pyramids by Terry Pratchett (9-20-11) (323 pages)

Enjoyed this much more than the last one in the Discworld series. Pratchett's ability to take a complete disaster and make it funny is pure genius to me. I thought Teppic was better off as an assassin than a king anyway.....

To date: 46 books, 18285 pages.

47. The Emperor's Tomb by Steve Berry (9-21-11) (436 pages)

I've been lucky lately in that Rollins, Thor, and now Berry have put out their best work in their latest releases (next to last for this Berry work). I enjoyed this Berry novel more than any of his others. The characters were much stronger and easier to identify with in this book than other Berry books and the plot was, in a word, fascinating (infinite oil, wow!). Cotton Malone just gets better and better with each book.

48. Dirty Work by Stuart Woods (9-25-11) (348 pages)

Fun book, good plot and lots of guilty pleasures again. I think so far this is Woods best work that I've read....great mix of plot, Stone Barrington development (and trouble), and intrigue. The part where Stone meets with the assassin and is negotiating legal terms is pure genius in my opinion.

To date: 48 books, 19069 pages.

49. Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher (9-30-11) (547 pages)

This series continues to get better and better. Harry is discovering that there is more and more out there conspiring against him and the rest of the world for that matter. He now has an apprentice as well (upstart Molly). Can't wait for the next one.

50. The Marching Season by Daniel Silva (10-5-11) (488 pages)

Wow, great book. I'm glad I took Vince Flynn's recommendation and started reading Daniel Silva because his books are outstanding. This one was tense from start to end, and I thought it ended on an unexpected, yet great note. Maybe someday Silva will revisit the world of Michael Osbourne. On to Gabriel Allon next....

51. The Unlikely Spy by Daniel Silva (10-7-11) (726 pages)

Another outstanding early work from Silva. This is probably one of the best 2 or 3 books I've read this year. Silva masterly weaves fiction into the history of the events leading up to D-Day. I was riveted to the pages right to the end. I recommend this book to anyone.

52. The Kill Artist by Daniel Silva (10-15-11) (489 pages)

53. The Victim by W.E.B. Griffin (10-16-11) (345 pages)

Loving this series....this was the best one yet. Matt Payne is my favorite character, followed closely by Inspector Wahl. I'm really amazed at how Griffin has written all the characters to be so real and how they all seem to mesh together as part of the Philly PD. Very impressive.

54. Ogre, Ogre by Piers Anthony (10-17-11) (307 pages)

56. Life Is A Gift by Bob & Judy Fisher (10-23-11) (215 pages)

Bible study book.....didn't resonate with me like I thought it would. It had some good messages, but for the most part I found it rather uninspiring. If you're looking for a Bible study book, there are much better books out there.

57. The Witness by W.E.B. Griffin (11-2-11) (426 pages)

Continues this wonderful series with another solid entry. Matt Payne almost seems like a real-life Harry Potter in that he is continually screwing up on the Philadelphia P.D. and receiving accolade after accolade. Great characters in this series.....

58. Firestorm by Rachel Caine (11-4-11) (292 pages)

The first 3/4 of this book was very enjoyable, a good entry in the Weather Warden series. I really liked how Jo's character was evolving, working through her problems, and setting up for what could have been an outstanding ending. In all honesty, the last 1/4 of this book was somewhat of a letdown, kind of like how I felt after watching the third Matrix movie. "That's it?" Oh, well, on to the next one....

59. The Tehran Initiative by Joel C. Rosenberg (11-6-11) (459 pages)

Wow. What an incredible book.....this stuff is happening today in the real world. The last 100 pages fly by as the tension is unbelievable. I urge anyone to read the previous book and this book in this series. I cannot wait until next fall when the conclusion comes out.

61. Two Dollar Bill by Stuart Woods (11-19-11) (346 pages)

62. The Assassin by W.E.B. Griffin (11-23-11) (453 pages)

Not as good as the other Badge Of Honor books, but still enjoyable. The only problem I had with this book is that not enough time was dedicated to the actual assassin in this book, and a great deal of time was spent on a narcotics smuggling plot with a bad cop. There was enough material here for two books, therefore the ending was somewhat rushed.

63. The English Assassin by Daniel Silva (12-2-11) (437 pages)

Silva went to another level with this Gabriel Allon novel from his previous works. Great plot, great characters, great writing, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this gem....and, the intrigue will continue with the next novel as this one sort of leaves a few things hanging. This one just clicked with me.

64. The Murderers by W.E.B. Griffin (12-3-11) (528 pages)

This series really took off again with this entry. I love how Griffin expertly laid out the investigative process used by the Philly PD to solve the murder cases in this book, and the characters seemed to really shine in the process.

65. Dark Harbor by Stuart Woods (12-6-11) (374 pages)

Meh. Quick read, predictable, not very satisfying. Maybe the next one will be better.

To date: 65 books, 26163 pages.

66. The Confessor by Daniel Silva (12-15-11) (459 pages)

Another outstanding entry in the Gabriel Allon series by Silva. The history of the Catholic church and its position during the Holocaust made for a fascinating read interwoven with Silva's characters. Great ending too.....

To date: 66 books, 26622 pages.

67. The Investigators by W.E.B. Griffin (12-16-11) (578 pages)

Best Badge Of Honor novel to date. This one had multiple plots that were thoroughly and satisfyingly covered, all involving the major players in the series. Griffin seemed to really expand his characters in this one as well, showing differents sides not seen in previous BOH books.

To date: 67 books, 27200 pages.

68. Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett (12-22-11) (355 pages)

Another hilarious tale from Discworld. I was cracking up reading this one, and it had one of the better stories of the DW novels I've read to date. You'll never look at dragons in novels the same way after reading this one.

To date: 68 books, 27555 pages.

69. The Jefferson Key by Steve Berry (12-22-11) (456 pages)

Good plot, not so good pacing. Parts of this got extremely choppy and I admit I had trouble keeping track of where certain characters were at a given moment. Not among his best works, but I did enjoy parts of the background plot.

For 2011: 69 books, 28011 pages.

See you in 2012.......:-)
