books dealing with death and grief

The best book I have ever read about death is Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. She wrote what I have felt. I have always been told that good lit make you feel and she is so unbelievable. Even though I was much younger (age 25) when I lost my husband...the pain we shared was the same. As far as fiction goes...Good Grief by lolly winston had its moments. Even though it was written as a lighter read...I found parts of it very sad because I had been there. For the young reader, Each Little Bird that Sings by Deborah Wiles is set in Snapfinger, Mississippi...it is for the 4th grader or even a little older. Her family owns the local funeral home which puts her in the position to know the best funeral behavior for kids. For the high school reader The Afterlife by Gary Soto was a realistic read. The teenage boy sees his former life from the afterlife. Thought provoking for the teenager. Another YA title is Looking for Alaska by John Green.
