I logged out of my actual account, and now instead seem to be stuck as a signed in user called "deleted". It will not let me sign out of this account....

Ok now I am back in my own account. I had to close my browser completely, and come back into the main sign in page for the "deleted" user profile to go away. I tried to logout again, and was immediately put back into the "deleted" user. Would this be a misplaced cookie at my end??

It certainly sounds like a cookie error to me, try deleting your LT cookies and try again.

Ugh. Thanks. Forwarding to John.

Deleted all the cookies for the site....same thing happened.

Did you clear your internet cache (temporary internet files) too? When I have cookie problems, I usually have to delete the cookies and clear the cache for anything to work.

Not sure this will help any more than deleting your cookies from the browser, but I just created a page that will let you see all the cookies set on your browser by LibraryThing, and also delete them, from the server. Give it a shot, and let me know how it goes:

Spaces required either side of the URL, John - to make it "live", another little glitch when you get time *sniggers* http://www.librarything.com/test_cookies.php

*sigh* Well here I am again! Still stuck in deleted, and deleted seems to have added books! None of which are wood_engravers, by the way. So....any other ideas? I really don't want to create another account, and if you are IP tracking, then it wouldn't be possible anyway. Oh...wonder if that is the problem? But I have never deleted an account, so that doesn't make sense either. deleted does seem to be running in the background for some reason though. It comes up automatically when I log out of wood_engraver, and then won't let me go. I mean...I can understand that perhaps it likes me, but now it's getting creepy!

Hi wood_engraver, I can only guess "deleted" is some kind of system account used for some form of maintenance purposes by the LT staff. Somehow you've gotten stuck in it, have you tried using John's link and the option on that page to delete all your cookies?

As far as I'm aware, the cookie is the only way the site can automatically identify whom you are and keep logging you in as "deleted".

My guess is that if you check the cookie page (link in message 8) you'll see something like [cookie_userid] / [deleted]

My guess also Bob, I can't think of anything else which would log them back in as "deleted" other than a rogue cookie.

Hmmm - 'deleted' is a private account with an image and a few books. There are also 'deletedaccount', 'deletedelete' and 'deletedeletedelete'

Perhaps a few reserved words are called for.

I am free!!!

I downloaded and ran CCleaner. That seems to have found the errant cookie. No problems logging in/out since last night. Thanks for all your help.
