Search for more than one tag?

Okay, there MUST be a) an easy way to do this, and/or b) already a thread about this, so sorry about my stupid question...

Here goes: how do I search for multiple tags at the same time? Let's say I'd want to find fiction books related to church history / christianity. I tried formulating a search with "christianity AND fiction" but all it gave was an error message...

What is the correct way to do this?

It's called a "tagmash" in LibraryThingish. If you put the terms into the search box separated by a comma and then click on the "tags" button on the search page, you will get there. Or just go straight to http://www.librarything.com/tag/Church+History,+fiction

...Hmm - interesting: St Augustine comes up ahead of The kingdom of the wicked, though Quo vadis and The Da Vinci code trump both of them.

You can create your own tagmash specific to the books in your library, too, by typing:

|tag| |comma| |tag|

...in a 'search your library' search box.

Very helpful if you want to find all 'church history, christianity' books you have just in your collections.

NOW I feel stupid! So _this_ is the "tagmash" I've heard mentioned, here and there, in numerous threads. I guess it's just that I've never really needed to make a search of this kind, so I haven't really bothered to find out what the term means, or taken the time to _really_ read through tagmash-related messages.

I think I must be missing something here.

I want to see all my books tagged with BOTH "Fiction" AND "History", and ONLY those books that have both tags (in this case so I can re-tag them with "Historical Fiction").

When I search with "History, Fiction" as suggested above, or even "tag:History, tag:Fiction" as suggested elsewhere in the FAQ, I get all my books with EITHER "Fiction" OR "History" as well as those with both.

This is such a simple requirement, there must be an easy way to do this.

What I wanted was something like: tag:Fiction & tag:History

There might be an easier method that I don't know about, but in this case I would create a "fiction" collection using power edit. Then search for the tag "history" within that collection (or the other way around - "history" collection and search for "fiction" tag).

I think you may be experiencing the bug I reported here, oh, nine months ago. When you use more than one search term in a catalog search all of the modifiers are dropped, whether from the pull-down or written in ones like tag: and title:.

So I think what you're seeing is books that include fiction and history, but in any of the fields, not just your tags.

In my Your library collection, if I do a tag search for world I get 67 results, all with world in the tags (though it may be part of a phrase or compound word). If I tag search for history I get 712 results. If I tag search for world history I get 100 results. As this is far fewer than plain history it's clearly not searching world or history. And I note that books are included that have world in the title, or the review or what have you.
