A special hello to all the Baton Rouge readers on LT! Thought for a sunny Spring afternoon...
Most of my favorite authors are from the deep south. Neighboring Mississippi produced John Grisham, Greg Iles, Eudora Welty and William Faulkner. Other than Ernest Gaines and Anne Rice are there any other notable fiction writers from Louisiana?

Hi there! I'm not from Baton Rouge, but I'm throwing distance...Covington. A refugee from Metairie. Not from the storm, but the flood in '95.

I really have never gotten too much into Southern writers. I do enjoy James Lee Burke's detective series based in New Iberia and New Orleans though. His character Dave Robicheaux is one of the most interesting detectives I've ever read.

I'm more into Vladimir Nabokov and the like.

Hi there Cateline in Covington... I did read Last Car to Elysian Fields several years ago and enjoyed it very much. I intended to read more of the Dave Robicheaux series and I guess I forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me! I was reminded recently that we claim Truman Capote... I can't believe I forgot about him!

Hi. I'm Linda from Westlake. I love James Lee Burke and his Dave Robicheaux series. Tim Gautreaux is a Louisiana author. He writes mostly short stories, but has a couple of novels out. His latest novel, "The Clearing" is an excellent book about the logging industry just after WWI in the Morgan City area. Back to James Lee Burke, they're shooting a movie in New Iberia right now based on my favorite Robicheaux novel, "In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead." Tommy Lee Jones is cast as Dave. I just hope they stick to the book.
