Salon Seminar: How to Post Pics & Other Fun Stuff

Posting Pics

1. You must first have pictures saved in a file that you've either scanned or uploaded into your computer before you can do anything.

2. Open an account here: http://photobucket.com/

3. Toward the middle of the screen, click on the button, "Upload Now".

4. New screen pops up; click on "Select photos and videos"

5. A screen containing your own picture files you've previously saved before step 1 should pop up. Select whatever picture you want to post, and click on the "Open" button.

6. It will then take a few seconds for photobucket to upload your picture. A message "Upload Complete" should appear. Scroll down and see your picture.

7. You've the option now of giving the pic a title and whatnot. For now, I recommend skipping that, and instead, over on the right, click on "Save and continue to my album".

8. New screen with your pic appears. Look to the right where it says, "Share this album". Do you see where it says "HTML link"? To the immediate right is the gibberish looking code ...

9. Click once on the code and in a second you'll see the word "copied" appear and then disappear. You've now successfully copied the code you'll need to paste into your post.

10. Paste the code you copied in step 9 into your post -- might as well open a post below these instructions.

11. Okay, last step: You've got your code pasted in your post. Now you just need to put some simple "html" (see below) to the left and to the right of the code.

To the left of the code you've pasted, type the "less-than" symbol followed (w/out a space) by: img src="

Note that there IS a space between img & src=" Now you're done with what you need to add to the left side of what you pasted from photobucket.

Now, to the right of the pasted code, very simple, just add: quotation marks, immediately followed by the "greater-than" symbol.

And then hit Submit and your picture should appear in your post. Practice. Give it a shot.

Note: if your pic is too large, we can discuss how to decrease its size.

To decrease size so as not to widen the LT page, go to your photobucket account, click on that crab pic, and look for the edit or edit size icon. You'll want to decrease the width of your pic to at least 600. I've experimented in the past and I believe the widest you can go without altering the LT page is between 605 & 615. Once you've input the new size, click on either "Replace Original" or "Copy New Pic" and you'll then have your re-sized picture.

An alternative way to edit size is to input the numbers along with the html code, but it's been so long since I've edited it that way, I don't recall how to exactly. Perhaps someone else can explain editing size that way.

Hello, my darlings... the correct way to resize a photo is to add width=600> (or some such number as you prefer) to the end of the code after the quotes (add a space) and before the greater than symbol > (for landscape oriented pics)

This was resized to 400.

or use height=500 to resize the portrait oriented pics.

But how do we remember it all for months at a time?

Ahh, now there's the rub. (best if you just star this thread, eh?) Though, I did the above from wrote and I have been missing for 4 months. Dear gawd, what does that say about me?

Star it?

There is a star at the top right of the page that you can make this a favorite thread. Once you star it you can select the 'your starred' threads (on the top left in the 'Your World' column) and only your starred threads will show.

Rick, you need to practice resizing your pictures in posts 2 and 5. They are causing the dreaded horizontal scroll bar to appear.

Rick, That's my wife's cousin with the big bass, not me. I am much more cosmopolitan and sophisticated than my rustic in-laws.

The scroll bar thing is a pet peeve. I hate to have to scroll over to get to the top button or the back to top button.

I'm with you, though I think I got the bass and you confused and then it all went to shit in my head. Sorry.
I have gone berserk when text left the screen, off to my right somewheres.
