it's important to change your verbs before you go out. You never know, you could get run over and you wouldn't want the ambulance drivers to see your old verbs.

I'm taking a break from watching Sabrina -- Sophie wanted to go out. No idea why she would want to do that, as it's cold and windy out there, but you know how dogs are. And while I was up, I thought I'd check in here!

I'm listening to my daughter serenade me with drinking straws. Although it sounds like a...different kind of music...
7Owlnip
Procrastinating... I should be studying! But it's a chilly day so it feels like I should just get back in bed with a book (not textbook) or a movie...

At work, with nothing to do... feeling mopey. (And before you ask, Mopey is just fine about it).

Finishing my morning coffee, putting up out of office messages since I'm home sick, and thinking about driving to Target to buy a copy of DH1 to watch today while I'm home...

Just finished weeding a bunch more books from the school library (big books, which no teacher has used in the 3 years I've been here. I am covered with dust). Waiting for the bell to ring so I can escort kindergartners to the mommies.
17jugglingpaynes
Well now I'm wondering that, too!

I'm finishing up tomorrow's powerpoint for church. I also have a puppy laying on my lap, which is making it hard to type.
Next up: playing with puppy or checking email. I hate to disturb him since I just got him to be still. Maybe I'll check my email first and then play.

I'm having a lazy day, as much as I need to write to stay on track, I just don't feel like writing today. So I'll have to make up for it tomorrow...But I did get some reading done that I needed to get done.

I'm going to bed...yeah, that's right, it's early friday night (at least where I am) and I'm going to bed. How lame is that???
34Theamwriter
#33 - Nah, that's not lame. I go to bed really early sometimes too. It just depends on what I did during the day. Sometimes when I write ALL day long, I'm passing out at 8-8:30 pm (that's really early considering I usually don't go to sleep until about 2 am)
35foggidawn
#33 -- I'm feeling a little under the weather, so I may just follow your excellent example in a little while!

I also went to bed early last night but thats not unusual for me on Friday night

Resting. Granddaughter Charlotte just went home with her parents after a 4 1/2 day visit. Holy cow, I forgot how much work 2 year olds are! (But we had a lot of fun!)

57compskibook
I don't know. Wouldn't you have to murder a ball of yarn to make it a true knitted horcrux?
58catbastet
Murdering any old ball of yarn wouldn't do it. You'd need to do something truly horrible, like mangling cashmere, or, even worse, burning a ball of quiviut yarn. *shivers at the awfulness of those acts*
59Theamwriter
I'm planning my video blogs that will be filmed shortly, once I motivate myself to straighten my hair again, oh and writing down a new story idea that just came to me. Then back to my writing.

#55-58...lol =P Actually they are crocheted horcruxes ( We had to choose between hallows & horcruxes) b/c I don't know how to knit. It's for the Harry Potter Knit & Crochet House Cup group. *Shudders at the thought of mangling or burning a ball of high quality yarn* I'll post pictures later =)

68jugglingpaynes
Our family always has eggs for breakfast when we give blood. And orange juice. And I have coffee because if I don't, my blood pressure tends to drop dangerously close to the low end for giving blood, like 90/70 range.

I have a phlebotomist for a mother and a nursing student for a sister, but neither's explained to me which number's for what. What does each represent? Mine's normally at 90/60 when they check, I believe.
I'm carefully planning what I should read next on LT since I don't have time to read as many books anymore.

Back from giving platelets. I always feel blah afterwards, which gives me an excellent excuse to just sit around and read. So that will be my plan for the rest of the day.
72jugglingpaynes
#70: Top number is systolic (point of greatest pressure), bottom number is diastolic (point of lowest pressure). 90/60 happens to be the lowest you blood pressure can be, otherwise you can't give blood. At one point when I was pregnant with my youngest, I register something like 60/40. The nurse redid it, but I couldn't really get into a normal range. Not surprising that I ended up being diagnosed with hypothyroid after she was born.

Finished up editing Chapter 18 and managed to actually cut words this time around (a rarity for me). Somehow I've managed to only add 3k words over the span of 117k.
89MrAndrew
have you tried deleting every third word? Seriously trims that bloated word count, and adds a delightful air of piquant mystery to the storyline. Post-modern masterpiece, anyone?

Finished baking the heart-shaped tarts, and made shortbread. Made some in mini-muffin pans, turned out quite well. Also made a standard pan of shortbread and attempted to cut heart-shaped biscuits (cookies) out of it. Got six full hearts and a pile of delicious broken hearts. Om nom nom nom.

What do you write Alishamb08? Fiction, Non-Fiction...?
116jugglingpaynes
LaRay, you should try what I'm doing. It's much more manageable. Someone blogged about writing for fifteen minutes a day in August. I'm not a fast typist...or thinker...but I've got about 6 pages of a story that has been niggling my brain for years and I've been tweaking a collection of comic strips and articles that I plan to eventually publish, because friends keep bugging me to do it. :oP
The main challenge to writing fifteen minutes a day is finding a chance to sit uninterrupted. I hadn't had a chance all day yesterday, so I did it at night. My nine year old doesn't understand that if my fingers are tapping the keys, she shouldn't come to me every two minutes to report on other things happening in the house, like what happened in the episode of Sailor Moon that she watched with her sister, or that the cat had managed to eat (the cat has been having mouth problems.) Then she took out the karaoke machine and started making echo sounds through the mike. Typing to simulated whale song. Never thought that would happen.

#115 LaRay - I write fiction. I want to be a YA author. I love reading it so why not. My current work in progress (through almost finished with rough draft) is about teenagers living in a life of street racing (after their father died), and my second project I'm plotting out is a vampire story. (I had to at least one write to get it out of my system before moving onto another 5 ideas that I have)
And #116 is right, as long as you write on a daily basis, the story will get done. Even if you don't have 15 minutes a day, take 5-10 minutes. However much time is available to you. I usually try to write for hours at a time, but sometimes that's not always feasible. I take what I can get.

I have a story idea that has been with me for years. Lately I've been trying to write down plot points as they occur to me. That's about all I can get time for right now. But I am more defanitly determined to try! Thanks for the words of advice.
I would also probably be more geared to YA. It's my prefered genre along with scifi/fantasy.

About to catalog some books after a final trip to Borders. I'm so sad they're closing, but I also just got $230 worth of books for less than $50. So conflicted.
161supersam
does anyone know what they are going to put in the place of the borders stores? in my home town borders was the only good book store in town.
162jugglingpaynes
We've had two Borders stores closed in our area. One of them was one of the first closed, years ago, the other closed in March of this year. Neither has ever had anything move in to its place. Which is sad. The economy is not favorable for opening stores right now.

I'm watching a Friends marathon, though I should be sleeping.
So, they're in their early to mid-twenties at this point. I'm in my mid-twenties. It's funnier now than it was the last time I watched it (about ten years ago), but I'm really nothing like them. On the bright side, when my dad comments on the sexiness of any of the women, I can say, "She's 25 in this episode," and watch him blanche.

I'm helping catbastet get onto the @#%#@&^*%# college website. Which seems to be broken. Again.

#169: LOL! Sadly, that is pretty accurate. :o)
LaRay, I'm sorry you didn't get to stay home with your daughter on her birthday. {{hugs}}

I am finishing up my second mug of coffee, trying to find the will to work on a beautiful Saturday morning. Rex is at his grandparents, and I've got some big work deadlines later this month, so I really should take advantage of today to work. However, it's lovely out - sunny, bright blue sky, high of only 82 - and there are multiple fun things to go do today: annual book festival (my husband is there right now introducing an author), annual air show, church festival, gem & mineral show. And I'm at home, needing to work...

Can you work outside? Hook the laptop up to a long extension and set yourself up under a tree outside? It's what I would do...
175grkmwk
I worked inside, but I did open my dining room drapes and raise the blinds so I could enjoy the sunshine. I got a lot of work done, which was good, and am glad I stuck with my plan. Thankfully today is almost as nice...and I'm not working!!

RE: bookstores
None of the closed bookstores near me have new businesses in them yet, either. I did recently have a fun day checking out a few bookstores across the bay and was happy with the stores I could find, though.
Right now I'm procrastinating finishing up on some cleaning. I've been cleaning all day. It must be contagious, too, because someone I live with who never cleans spent several hours cleaning as well. ;)

Killing time before school Open House tonight. I live too far away to go home. Plus side...after school I had time to catalog a bunch of books. Unfortunately, I can't find spine labels to complete processing them. Third week of school, and I still don't have library shelves, so all my books and most of my stuff is in storage. Stopping now before I get into a serious rant...if you want to see my rant, though, hop over to "Librarians Who LibraryThing" and you'll see the whole sad, miserable, comedy-of-errors, craziness which has been my school year thus far. :)

I am reading blogs, wandering aimlessly through LibraryThing and putting off my Italian homework. :P

I'm taking a break from redecorating my friend's badge for work. She saw that I have Snoopy dancing on mine and made the request. I'm thinking Harry Potter theme, perhaps. ;)

Wondering if the promise of rain will actually be fulfilled this week. That would be lovely.
HEY, if you have an overabundance of rain in your corner of the world, try sending it to TX, would ya? Almost the entire state is under a "burn ban".

#182: You can have some of our rain if you like. We're feeling a bit waterlogged in NY. Thunderstorms predicted today and tomorrow.
I'm getting my notes together for my biannual storytelling workshop at the library. I've done this for years and I still get butterflies before it. Breathe in. Breathe out. Don't panic.

I WANNA BE A LIBRARIAN!!! I really do, but, alas, it will probably remain an unfulfilled dream... :(

#184 - Why? If you really want to be one, do! I am and I love it!! (Just don't read what I write below... ;o) )
I'm kicking myself for failing to make sure that the files I needed from my work laptop actually copied to my flash drive. It was *pouring* rain when I left this evening (meg, I'll try to send it down your way!), so I didn't want to lug my laptop across campus and risk it getting wet, as I only have a small umbrella. So I figured I'd copy 'em and work at home tonight my little netbook. FAIL. Didn't copy, and I cannot start from scratch, as these my are promotion dossier files and I'm far enough into the ones I need to work on that it isn't worth it. So I'm debating a second beer, since I don't need the same mental faculties tonight...

If my rich uncled ever gets out of the poor house I might manage to become a librarian, but it isn't likly at this stage of my life. I wouldn't have the time to take the classes even if I had the money to go...

#195 - Veta, what type of article and where? Regardless, congrats!
#196 - Yay, Polly!
I'm waiting for my mom to drop off my son, whom she and my dad took home with them last night since my husband had to work this morning and I co-hosted a brunch baby shower for a dear friend. I'm also drinking pumpkin beer, and relishing the fact that while I worked on cleaning up the kitchen, my husband vacuumed and dusted the rest of the house, so we have a clean house!!!

I'm wasting my time on LibraryThing - that's not the same as posting!
202ErisofDiscord
I know it is - but since I should be doing schoolwork, my teachers would qualify it as 'wasting.' :P

Yes I'm at work too, so it probably would be considered time wasted...You have a valid point :) I'm really wishing I wasn't at work.

glad to be home. Its raining cats and dogs out there and I'm glad to be home

Rain is awesome. I don't mind running half so much when I run in it!

Hm. My rain-loving family would say you'd miss out on it if doing anything but walking in it. ;)
I've just gotten home from work and am sitting before going out again, for birthday giftwrap.

Trying to get motivated to write my lesson plans for the next 6 weeks period. Unmotivated b/c the lesson I want to teach 3rd grade, "how to use the OPAC", I can't do b/c there are not enough computers (there are 3, but only 2 actually work). Usually I teach it in the computer lab w/ the computer teacher, but that time slot has been taken for tutoring. We have a mobile lab now with laptops, but I have to wait until the PTB decide it's ok to load the OPAC program on them. Which of course, I don't have administrative rights to do, and must wait for someone else to do. So in the meantime, b/c of construction issues, no library books for the first 6 weeks of school, budget cuts, etc etc, I'm about 8 weeks behind in what has normally been taught by this time. So....guess we'll delay that lesson another 6 weeks. How does 6 weeks of "Silent Sustained Reading" on my lesson plans sound?
Oh dear. I just realized this turned into something of a rant.

6 weeks of "Silent Sustained Reading" sounds good to me. I believe kids learn more when they read, anyway. Schools assign kids too much homework, in my opinion. They should leave more time for reading, not writing stupid essays that will never matter again in your life! Hmph. I realize that I just ranted too. :)

Lessons plans done for next 6 weeks for all grade levels except 3rd. Two weeks ahead of schedule. Feeling righteous now.

Good for you! Now I gotta go work on schoolwork or I'm dead.
