Errrrr....no need to feel alone. Lots of people have read it. You can read their reviews right here on Librarything, and I'll bet there's more than a few groups devoted to this book and to Tolstoy. You just have to search.

I love the book myself, I read it a long time ago and I will read it again sometime, I was in my teens when I read it so and now I am in my early 30's so it is time I guess, well soon anyway.
It is the only book that has ever made my cry so far.
Also I can recommend Sergei Bundarchuk's beautiful movie adaptation "Voyna I mir".

Several of the folks in the 75 Books Challenge group did a group read of War and Peace earlier this year. Here's the start of their threads on the book:

I'm currently reading it. I'm about 500 page into it.

I read it when I was fourteen, just to impress people. I only vaguely remember scenes and characters, and I wasn't able to appreciate what made it a classic at that age. I should have saved it for later in life. There's too much else to read and I'm too slow a reader ever to tackle it again, but I did enjoy it.

What a great book. I really prepped myself before reading it, however. I watched two of the movie versions, listened to the abridged BBC recording, and probably even (God forbid!) checked out Sparknotes. My preparation paid off; I really enjoyed it and had no problem with the various characters. They sort themselves out as the book progresses, any-who...
