Hi,
i'm an active Common Knowledge and i have some question about it
1) Original publication date: should i put the localized (ie Italian) Original publication or not?
If not the localized Original publication date is useless
2) Series (with order): should i localize the serie name? I mean, a serie is usually the same in all language, i can localize it (Star Wars becames Guerre Stellari), but this may lead to missing books in a serie (i can't localized CK for all the books in a serie)
Or should i add the localized serie name?

Thanks!

With the series, I'd say use the form for the language of the site you're on. That is, use "Star Wars" on librarything.com but "Guerre Stellari" for librarything.it. But you may want to see what other people have to say.

As for original publication date, you can add multiple dates by clicking the "+" button. Hamlet, for example, has four dates: the three quartos and the folio. You can similarly have other works with their original publication in any language, and also the original publications of translations into other languages. (Note though that this should be done sparingly: I'd only put the original version and any translations into Italian on the Italian site, for example, but leave off the translations into other languages.)

1 by @mirkul> There's a downside with series. The English site series names will "bleed over" into the non-English sites. So if someone sets up a Star Wars series on the English site and no one has entered any non-English series info for the books on other sites, the English series will be visible. As soon as any non-English series info is put in, the English series information for that title disappears from the non-English site.

The downside is that you may have a series that is well-maintained on the English site but isn't going to get as much attention on a non-English site. If you leave it alone on the non-English site, you'll keep getting the updates made on the English side. But if you override it, now people on that non-English site will have to keep it updated.

I really wish the Series was a little more language independent. It'd take a fair bit of work, though, given how books are often published quite differently in other languages (broken up into extra volumes, for one).

I need some help with members of this group. There is a book called Plantation Triology by Gwen Bristow that is actually a single-volume collection of three separate but interconnected books: Deep Summer, The Handsome Road, and This Side of Glory. When I looked at the Works page, I see that it was compiled by a Dutch member about the Dutch edition. I added my review of the book (there were no others) but the English-language publication of this book apparently differs from the Dutch version. I have no experience with creating Works pages of a single-volume work that is made up of three separate books. Can someone here help me? Or complete the Works page for me if I supply any needed information?

You can't create a works page in any way other than entering a book into a library. If the book has been auto-combined into a work that is incorrect, you can separate the book from the work, which then creates a new work page.

What do you mean compiled by?

Are you talking about the information in Common Knowledge?

the English-language publication of this book apparently differs from the Dutch version.

What do you mean? How so?

BTW, I added "contains" relationships, so that the omnibus edition is now listed as containing the other three novels.
