I was recently adding works (to my daughter's account at bellatatiana), and she has two works that are in the same series, which I couldn't find on here, so I added manually. Unfortunately, because the titles are very similar, the system appears to have decided that they are versions of the same book. They aren't. They are also published by Scholastic Inc., with no author on the title page to list, hence no author page link. So how do I fix the erroneous combining?

Go to the editions page of one of the books. There should be a link that says "Separate" next to one of the entries - click that, and it should do.

Well, looks like keristars has beaten me to it while I posted a long drawn out message. In case her message isn't enough info, don't worry, it's easy to fix. You could do is post a link to your book here. Just go to it from your books and copy and paste the URL from the location bar to here. Then we can just tell you where to click and you'll know for future reference.

Speaking of for future reference, a completely friendly note - Bug Collectors is the group where people report bugs with the website. Things that are not working properly or are failing completely. No harm is done by you posted here, so please don't think you're getting chewed out or anything. :) I just want you to know that you might want to try a couple of different places in the future:

Click on the title of either book. Select "Editions" at the bottom of the left side menu. Both titles will show with "separate" links.

They auto-combined because the titles were identical before the colon. When entering books with similar titles, if you can find some way to avoid using a colon, or put the distinct part of the title first, it shouldn't happen.

ETA: third answer!

And if you have problems with books that need to be separated or combined, post in http://www.librarything.com/groups/combiners

There are people there with a whole barrel of tricks to get books into the right works.

You can also put the publisher in the title author field, and change the Role to Other and put in Publisher. Then the book will appear on the Scholastic author page -- you may find that there are other copies cataloged there.

Edited because I originally posted too late at night.
