What fun! I rolled a 5 - someone is trying to tell me I should read one of the umpteen unread books on theology and spirituality in my study! Now... which one?

I rolled a 3 for mystery -- great. I'm trying to get through my daughter's nearly-complete Joan Lowery Nixon collection before she moves it into her new home, so I'll pick one that didn't win an Edgar for this challenge.

I rolled a 2 for fantasy. Hmmm? Will I take you up on this challenge?

This is such a brilliant and creative challenge. I love it!

I like when we can discover new features on LT or even new websites elsewhere through the challenges we create. This was an especially good one, Morphidae!

Perhaps I'll read The Book of Lost Things, but I need a while to think this one through as fantasy is not my favorite genre. I know; I Know. TIOLI is to s-t-r-e-t-c-h my reading. These are famous last words that are coming back to haunt me! :)

I rolled a 1. I'm going to do The Man Who Loved Books Too Much which I need to return to its owner.

I rolled a 1, which doesn't give me much in my TBR to choose from (although a 6 would have been worse). I am going to read Illuminated Books of the Middle Ages, which is modern facsimile of an 1849 work with lots of glorious illustrations, and an introduction which is all about the original Victorian book about the Medieval books.

I rolled a 2 - fantasy ... well there is a lot of that on my shelves, so I'm sure I'll find something. Back with my decision later:)

I rolled a six for science fiction. I think this should be a pretty easy one for me, but we'll see.

I rolled a 3 and will be reading a mystery. Um... I don't know what I will be reading because I have too many to choose from. I will be starting Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye and may just use this one for the challenge.

The Abby Cooper books are fun -- I hope you enjoy them!

Rolled a 6---nooooooooo! Usually avoid science fiction. Do I take it or leave it...?

AnneDC, you have to take what you roll; however, the genre is rather large. I'm sure we can find something you can tolerate. What do you usually read?

ETA: How about something like The Giver? It's a Newbery Medal winner. Short and not too science-y.

My husband would be quite pleased if I pick up a sci fi book, his favorite genre. This may be a good reason to read one of those classics like Foundation or Brave New World. But I'm open to suggestions.

I rolled a 5 so I'll be looking for a religion book to read. I've got quite a few on my Kindle.

I've decided for my religion book to read the wonderfully titled If you meet George Herbert on the road, kill him, whose subtitle is 'Radically Re-thinking Priestly Ministry'. I started it a couple of years back, and left it half finished, so this should spur me on to complete it.

I rolled a 3. I'll read The Informationist which I have home from the library.

Let's see classics - 1984, Alas, Babylon, Flowers for Algernon, Slaughterhouse-Five, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Handmaid's Tale, The War of the Worlds.

You might like Crystal Singer. It's one of my favorites and it's more about the character than the science fiction. The Ship Who Sang also by McCaffrey is almost a romance - between a ship and her "brawn." Another McCaffrey - To Ride Pegasus - is a group of short stories about people with psychic powers.

I, Robot has charm. The Caves of Steel is more of a mystery. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is fun. The Time Traveler's Wife is an option. Uglies is YA.

I love the Crystal Singer -- it's been a favorite of mine for years. Of course, all the others you mentioned are pretty good, too.

Since I'm also a Lois McMaster Bujold fan, what about Shards of Honor or The Warrior's Apprentice?

Anne, I have a suggestion. Read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's very good and reads like literary fiction. I just finished it recently and thought it was quite interesting. Don't ask any more about it because spoilers abound!

Although I think I've already tossed at least two dozen book titles onto the July wiki (but who's counting), I will pick one for this challenge too--either Never Let Me Go or The Time Traveler's Wife, both of which have been on my TBR list for a while, or a classic one that is on the 1001 books list, like I Robot or Stranger in a Strange Land or The War of the Worlds or Slaughterhouse 5. The Giver is a great suggestion too and I know one of my kids has it on the shelf, so I could definitely commit to that. And I will note these other titles for future reference!

Mike, you're right, I read and liked The Hunger Games (4 stars is good), and it's definitely science fiction. I've also read, and liked, Ender's Game, my husband's all-time favorite. I loved 1984 and The Handmaid's Tale when I read them but don't really think of them as science fiction.

I'd definitely opt for Never Let Me Go; I was less enamored of The Time Traveler's Wife. Another sci-fi option for non sci-fi fans might be Fahrenheit 451, which is a great book-lovers' book!

Fortunately, I roled a 3 because I'm almost done with what I thik will be my last Dorothy L. Sayers mystery for a while, Have His Carcase. It's her usual witty mystery, but I think I'm about done with LPW and his crowd for a while.

84, Charing Cross Road counts but The Bookseller of Kabul does not as it isn't really about books but rather living in Afghanistan.

I rolled a 3: Mystery. I'm already reading a lot of those (as many as I can) for my Edgar challenge, but I can always try to squeeze in another for this one. I'll see what mysteries others are reading and see if I can make it a shared read for points.

just got 84 Charing Cross Road from the library and read it already!! what a good little book, shame the bookstore is no longer there!! I'm sure that I have seen a film about this book also but can't remember who was in it??

I just read an article about 84 Charing Cross Road the other day, so it's fresh in my mind. The film starred Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins.

I finished my first book, Oscar's Books, so I am going to give another roll like Monica. . .

ETA: This time I rolled a 2. I will have to see what I have at home that will fit the catgory when I am there. I do have a library book that will work though, so I might plug it in instead.

Just finished Retribution Falls by Chris Wooding for this challenge. Wow! What a fun book. Very Firefly -ish in the sort of world they are in, although Mal was a better pirate than Frey ever manages, lol. Although, granted, Frey never ends up naked in the desert.... Not quite anyway, lol.

Highly recommended.

Just finished Read My Hips. I'll review it later on my thread and my blog, but I have to admit that the collection of segments that make up the memoir weren't really that even, IMO.

Off to roll the dice again!

Finished reading Carte Blanche by Carlo Lucarelli, the first in a trilogy of mysteries I'm going to read for my Europa Challenge. A nice short noir-ish mystery. Off to see if I can be lucky a third time... There are two that I would like to roll, but we'll see!

Here's one to try, Suz. Read The Land of Laughs by Jonathan Carroll. It's a great read for lovers of literary fiction...but with the just the lightest dose of fantasy thrown in. I guarantee you'll love this story.

Actually, I just realized I've got the NetGalley version of The Magician King, that was finally approved. Hallelujah! Or would Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels qualify?

I initially rolled a 1 and thought I would have to leave this challenge as I didn't think I had any books about books in my TBR pile and then remembered a very short little book I'd downloaded to my new kindle, On Books and the Housing of Them by W. E. Gladstone.

Ha ha ha! After all my whining about rolling a 6, I have completed (and did like) Slaughterhouse-Five. And, now that I've rolled a 1, I will surprise myself by moving on to Fahrenheit 451, a science fiction book that is also a "book about books," since I'd already gotten it from the library.

Hey, I rolled a two for fantasy... Do you guys think that a superhero graphic novel would count under that category? Because I'm currently reading one anyway, lol

Finally got my spirituality book done, Life of the Beloved, and rolled again. I got a two for fantasy which is convenient since I just started The Wise Man's Fear by Rothfuss.

Finished The Warrior's Apprentice for my sci-fi challenge.

I finished reading Fahrenheit 451 (a book about books), which Chatterbox had originally suggested for my sci-fi roll--excellent suggestion! I have now rolled a 4 and will read Hospital Sketches if I have time before the end of the month.
