I'm going to see Nederlands Dans Theatre tonight (fri) & I'm so excited :)

Tomorrow I'm doing a half day overtime shift.

Sunday I'm going on a photo taking mission to my friend Dale's place which is out in Country Vic. He breeds Somali cats & his website needs updating but he doesnt have a decent camera at the moment, so perfect opportunity for me to go & visit & see & cuddle all his gorgeous cats & take some photos for him too - here's hoping I get some good ones for him!

What are you guys up to this weekend?

Have fun with the kitties! I am very jealous ;-)

I will be going to Canterbury (Kent, UK) for the day on Saturday with my church, but am breaking away to have lunch with my cousin. I don't get to see her very often, so that will be good.

Sunday I'm going to Brighton to see my sister, who will cut my hair for me. The train fare and cost of lunch combined is still cheaper than going to a salon, plus I get to spend time with my sister. Win-win!

I'm going to be trying to survive the heat. It's going to be in the 90s (32C) with heat indexes in the 100s (37C).

#2 - lots of travelling!
#3 - urgh.

Me. I'm caving again, unlikely to get sunburnt this time, the forecast is for rain. Going to North Wales which isn't renown for its caving areas, but there are some old mines that break through into deeper natural systems. This one has a 100m (300') entrance shaft! Fortunetly the local club have a winch to make the ascent so much more pleasant. Many thanks are due to them!

I am pretty much going to spend the weekend sitting on lawn chairs in front of my house, offering the flotsam and jetsam of my life to complete strangers in exchange for some official currency of the land. I expect it to be a slooooooow weekend and some reading will be done!

I am doing a cancer fundraiser bike ride tomorrow. My route is 25 miles. Maybe next year I'll do the 48 mile one. :)

I imagining Sunday I'll take it easy and rest my legs. :)

#1 Have fun with the kitties!
#2 safe travels
#4 have fun caving. That's something I'd like to get into someday.

they are promising rain saturday, so some friends and I are planning an afternoon with bezzerwizzer, Trivial P....(can't remember the correct spelling) and so on. Should be fun.
I am planning on using sunday on Clash of Kings. Inside if the weather is bad, but if it is good I will hike up a mountain and find a sunny spot to read in

#6 - I don't know where you are based, but in the UK the British Caving Association run a number of taster events to help introduce those who want to, to the clubs that can help them Try Caving

#7 Trivial Pursuit ? This definetly fits with besserwisser!

I get to spread the joy by delivering Front Yards In Bloom nominations to various worthy recipients. Other than that, just weeding, chores, laundry, etc. For a change the weather is supposed to be warm and sunny this weekend but the mosquitoes are still so bad that being outdoors is not fun.

Hubby and I will hold off seeing Harry Potter until Monday evening to let the crowds thin a little.

I'm hoping to finish up my milling project, though it will be unpleasant because of the heat. I found 2 more trees, one hickory that died and another butternut that fell down, so I'll try to salvage a couple more logs each for the mill while it's here and the rest will be firewood. When I'm not working on that project I'll likely be napping or reading, though I really need to get back and finish my new book shelf for the office.

Not sure. Weather permitting I might try to find the shot I envision for part of my indian pipe series. These flowers fascinate me. I took this the other day -

We're up at the cabin, arrived yesterday but couldn't arrange for internet until now... not least because when the weather is good you better take advantage of it, up here in the cold - only about 20°C/68°F here, despite blue skies and sun, and tomorrow Saturday promises rain...

If rain it is I think we might hunt for a sofa-bed for the cabin, else I'll weed and do other outdoorsy chores.

Busifer, tht is about the summer weather we are having, too. And I'm calling it warm-ish.

Let's see, we have Harry Potter tix for Sunday, am, but other than that and the season premiere of Breaking Bad (and baseball, of course) I've got no plans.

I like quiet weekends.

Busifer, sorry about your women's world cup team. Go USA!

#19 Very strong muscular horses. In this case the Suffolk Punch which is a rare breed of horse, traditionally used for farm work etc in this area of the UK, before tractors. My mum grew up on a farm worked by horses.

I had hoped for something of a quiet weekend, but when we sat at dinner, we mapped it out and it doesn't seem like that's what will play out. Standard obligations on Sat and Sun mornings, every one's home so dinners will need to be produced, and there's always laundry. My husband wants to go see the Harry Potter movie in the evening on one of the two days. I have three or four books that need to be finished for book groups and the like. Doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of knitting apt that will get done.

*I should not be here hanging out on the computer, she noted guiltily.*

#17 - Well, we got the bronze. Japan was too strong for us, and our goalie was an embarrassment, to be honest.

The US team is up for a fight, that's for sure.

Plans changed. Instead of the ocean, we are going to a baby shower on Sunday ( I feel a need to be near some of my family), then spending Sun. night at a hotel near Mt. Shasta. It is called the McCloud Hotel. It is an old hotel for loggers which has been refurbished into a lovely place with wonderful breakfasts. Like a bed and breakfast, only, a hotel where every room has its own bathroom. :) They also have a lobby with a fireplace and bookshelves loaded with fine books which the owner shares with the guests. We will be offered a glass of wine with appetizers on arrival and served a ribeye steak dinner that night. A moment of escape for us. There is free wi-fi there, but I'm leaving my netbook home. Otherwise, OH would want to borrow it! I'll be taking Wintersmith to read.

I have done next to nothing so far this weekend. I did clean up the kitchen and clean out a bathroom cabinet. I discovered a leak in the bathroom, so my timing was great.

I may go snorkeling tomorrow, but won't know until in the morning if we can go.

I hope everyone's weekend plans have turned out perfectly!

Well, it rained during the morning so the garage sale was IN the garage! Dragsville! Then as the afternoon went forward the sun and blue skies did show up. Nonetheless, did not make much in the way of money. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

I went to the theatre last night to see the original stage version of one of my favourite movies. It wasn't a disappointment.

Cleaning out the van, in anticipation of its lodging with Ranchland Ford while it recovers from the Midnight Deer Incident.

Cleaning out the car, in anticipation of selling it after I get the van back. I don't really need two vehicles, and the car was Lee's baby, and it has a few too many ghosts. I'd rather drive the van. I bought it after Lee died. No ghosts.

You would be more impressed with the scope of the car/van cleaning if you knew that I tend to spend long long hours in the vehicle, and also tend to toss things that are in my way into the rear of said vehicle and forget them. Today's cleaning was something akin to an archeology dig. Found many items of interest, most of them long forgotten.

You and I are so alike, Ms MerryMary. I am so glad that my niece takes my car into the dealership where she works for all its servicing. They actually vacuum and do a little cleaning, both inside and out whenever they have it. But you know the artifacts are still in there, waiting to be found.

36MerryMary
Jul 16, 2011, 9:40 pm

Right. The garage could only vacuum the front seat, because that's all they could get at. It is much better now. The last time I had Lee's car in for major work, I found I urgently needed something from the back seat, and they had to send somebody up a ladder because it was already on the hoist. I didn't want that to happen this time.

Well, I'm waiting for my son to return from Florida. They were supposed to be in by 10:00 pm. It's a youth group mission trip, and he just called. They're going to be reaaallly late. The van got a flat tire just as they crossed into our state. They're still getting the spare tire on. He's still at least 3 hours away--gonna be a long night.

You have to admire youth pastors--I'd be out of my mind after spending a week with 12 teenagers and then getting a flat on the way home.

It's been raining here since Friday night (when we got 6.4 inches of rain). I'm sure all the tourists have run home. Me, I'm staying inside and reading A Dance with Dragons.

I forgot an important thing I'm doing this weekend - DIM SUM! How could I miss that? An old friend is in town and we're assembling as much as we can of the old crew for a "general eating".

40MrsLee
Jul 17, 2011, 10:21 am

#37 - I believe that is the protocol for youth mission trips or any other volunteer organization which doesn't have much money. My husband went to Mexico to help build some houses, the van's engine blew a rod just after they crossed the border. My son went a few years later, different group, different vehicle, they spent three hours beside the road trying to get a tire fixed.

>11 Bookmarque: that's a great (and mysterious) looking plant - very well shot.

My weekend has involved... well... mainly working through a backlog of photo's that need sorting, filing, tagging, processing, and ultimately getting ready to put online / collate into a book. Whilst this is always an enjoyable experience (provided the pictures I've taken are reasonable), there are a lot of them to deal with at the moment, so I've been chunking it up, and working through a batch at a time.

The other thing that I've done over the last few days is spend some quality time at a Zoo with a couple of excellent pro photographers (links to their sites can be found here & here) - it was a great day, and a pleasure to meet them both for the first time. This week's shot comes from that day:

Although one thing I haven't done (since Friday) is update my website... I have several more pictures to put on there, just haven't gotten round to doing it.

On the positive side, though, I did get in some reading time today - continuing Retribution Falls - and I am enjoying it. It is very Firefly, and for me that's a good thing.

Garage Sale: Done, finished, complete and fini

Next week: trip to the Goodwill

Purse: moderately more full, but no fortune was made. I did better than my niece and "got rid" of some items I've been having a hard time saying good-bye to - Mother's accordian, a fine old beat up pine wood kitchen table, and a stain glass window pane. All had good memories attached, but that is all, just memories and I still have the memories.
