Made the requiem trip to Borders this afternoon and purchased a copy (the last one in the store) of The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler and Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry. Both at only 10% savings, but believe me I did my best to keep Borders afloat in the past couple years.
Also purchased a copy of Selvedge magazine at 40% off, not bad for a $25 magazine which I'd given up on awhile ago.
I sure am going to miss Borders. Will never forget when we were first married 34 years ago and I moved up here from Pittsburgh. After finding a job, I started taking pottery classes in Ann Arbor down the street from the original Borders store. It was a truly amazing place to fall into.
My son, having recently purchased his first home, has put his name on the list for some tables from the store. If he gets them, it will be a great memory for him of the local bookstore that he grew up with.

Just finished Silver Sparrow and Cloud Atlas with reviews posted on the book page.
I know so many of Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet readers group loved Cloud Atlas, but it just didn't click for me.
Am starting Jamlach's Menagerie and South of Superior today/tomorrow. Even tho' South of Superior is listed back in June, I decided to save it til now. I'll tell you why later.

I'm really enjoying Love and Summer which will be one of my former Booker longlist books over at the Booker group.

I need to get to Love and Summer one of these days. I enjoy Trevor's writing.

#10 Finished Love and Summer over the weekend and reviewed it on the book page. It is the first I've read of Trevor's writing and I will definitely be reading more! I see our library's copy of The Story of Lucy Gault is in so perhaps that will be next.

Finished South of Superior last night and the review is up on the book page. It really reminded my of Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani.
Started book #50, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children at the gym this AM. I was surprised to find that it has a WWII link. That makes four books I am currently reading that have some association with WWII. And The Tiger's Wife is mostly about the war in the Balkans, but there is a portion that stretches back to WWII.

#11: I loved The Story of Lucy Gault, the first of Trevor's books I ever read, so I hope you enjoy it when you get to it.

Have been away for awhile. Just finished The Story of Lucy Gault by William Trevor. I liked it, but liked Love and Summer a bit more.
Currently reading A Shuttle in Her Hand. On this one I have the plus experience of knowing the author.

Just started listening to Invisible by Paul Auster, narrated by the author. So far interesting but creepy.

Finished Invisible this AM. I gave it four stars, but will wait until we discuss it in book group before writing a review.

Finished What the Dog Saw this morning and review is posted.
Started The Twin yesterday.
Finished The Sisters Brothers last week.....not my kind of book. Can't believer it was a Booker contender.

Just finished Paula Poundstone's book as a light read. She cracks me up when she's a panelist on NPR's Wait Wait... And the book did not disappoint in the laughs with her quirky sense of humor.
Starting book 59, Old Filth as our Dec. book group selecton. Am not sure that I will make it to 75 for this year. Though it does occur to me that I haven't counted weaving, knitting, handspinning, and yoga books that I've read this year.

Started The Emperor of All Maladies yesterday. So far an interesting read.

Finished Emporer of All Maladies earlier in the week. It was a slow read for me, and I finished a couple other books in the meantime. I liked Emporer and have a lot of thoughts about it. Am waiting for them to coalesce before I write a review.
Well...it appears I have fallen short of my goal for this year, completing 63 books rather than the goal of 75. Upon reflection, I realized that I only included books that were pleasure reading. Perhaps next year I'll include books that I'm reading for other purposes.
So...I guess I'll start a 2012 thread tomorrow. And plan to begin the year with The Solitude of Prime Numbers
Happy New year.....
