I am at the point where I have re-read all my Jasper Fforde books waaay too many times and while I still find them enjoyable, well, I'd like something new.
What do you read while you're waiting for Shades of Grey #2 to come out?

Have you read To Say Nothing of the Dog? British, very Literary and funny. Like Wodehouse with a dash of Fforde. It is part of a series, but the first book is very serious and not as well written. I can't comment on the next book(s) since I've not read them.

Other than Terry Pratchett? Have you tried Malcom Pryce’s Aberystwyth novels? Very noir, very funny, completely mad.

Try the German author Walter Moers, start with The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear or The City of Dreaming Books - very bookish, very funny. Let's just hope the English translation is any good.

I also liked The Bear Went over the Mountain by Kotzwinkle. Bascially, a bear finds a manuscript and becomes a published author complete with some of the absurdities of publishing, celebrity, etc. that reminded a great deal of Fforde.

Robert Rankin is also good - same kind of wacky British humor, if a little more sinister. If you like the Jack Spratt mysteries, try The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse.

Thanks for the suggestions; I'm going through withdrawal and can't wait for the next 'Shades of Grey'. Too many people think I mean '50 Shades of Gray'.

Christopher Moore is good for the humor. His newest one, Sacre Bleu, might be your best introduction by way of Fforde. Lamb is my favorite, and the first 2 in the Bloodsucking Fiends series are good. Beware of lots of sex jokes but they are harmless.

Dimension of Miracles by Sheckley has been fun, and maybe more Douglas Adams than Fforde, but a lot of fun.
