Looking for insight on how best to combine or separate editions of Duane Preble's Artforms: An Introduction to the Visual Arts and Patrick L. Frank's Prebles' Artforms: An Introduction to the Visual Arts.

As I understand our current practice, revised editions of a Work sometimes get combined and sometimes get distinguished, mostly based on the extent of revisions (see, e.g., Strunk & White's The Elements of Style: http://www.librarything.com/search.php?search=strunk+white+elements+style&se.... ).

Here, it looks like somebody who may know these books (I don't!), has combined the Duane Preble editions (through 7), and distinguished them from Patrick L. Frank's editions (8 and up). Maybe the only basis for this distinction is that the original, primary author's involvement ended, and a new (co-?) author took on future revisions; but the distinction's there regardless.

We have a proposal on the table to combine these separate records as one LT Work; please see: http://www.librarything.com/topic/122451#2921356 . Furthermore, combining the related Artnotes to Accompany Artforms ( http://www.librarything.com/work/314293 and http://www.librarything.com/work/4347162 ) is also proposed.

For 50 points, please discuss. Thank you all!
