Leaving the Deep Fell and heading for the Fire Springs to capture Strabo in Magic Kingdom for Sale

Can I be somewhere in sci fi, rather than fantasy? Because I'm on the atevi homeworld with Bren Cameron one more time, in Betrayer.

I don't think it really matters if the book is Sci-Fi or Fantasy (weren't they all lumped together at one point?). But, as far as I've seen, the title has always had "Fantasyland" in it.

Well, this is the Fantasy Fans group, so that follows ;-)

I'm not sure I could distinguish between the two genres before I joined LibraryThing; I think I have a better grasp now, but still feel, for example, that McCaffrey's Pern books belong firmly in both camps, even though she insists they're sci fi.

And I really enjoy both genres, so . . .

Sci Fi? I always consider them fantasy, ain't no body gonna tell me different ... even the author. *lol* But I suppose the same can be said about the Witch World series.

That's the problem with science fantasies, they're too happy being both.

It's only a problem if it bothers you!

7Aldrea_Alien
Oct 2, 2011, 6:20 pm

*lol* It only bothers me when I try to find them on the library's bookshelf. They've three spots where they 'could be' (if they haven't been filched). At least the bookshops lump'em together, even if it is a small section in the corner somewhere. -_-

I'm currently doing something of a timeshare between multiple books: Red Phoenix by Kylie Chan is the primary book I'm reading right now, but also The Spindle Whorl .And, yes, I know the latter book isn't fantasy (although it might be possible to make a case for The Spindle Whorl as it does involve time travel).

I've just started on Tam Lin by Pamela Dean. (I'm timeharing it with two non-fantasy books and a fair amount of my friends' unpublished writings.)

I just read Heroes at Odds Book 6 of the series... then I read on her website that Ace won't be publishing book 7! It's a bit of a shame.

I'm navigating magic & mystery in Tenochtitlan in Servant of the Underworld by de Bodard -- conflict between gods of the Aztec empire. I think it was recommended by someone on this list (thank you!) and it's quite good. Handles well the human characters & their motivations, the different world-view, and the divine & supernatural aspects.

I like reading multiple books at once, alternating between different styles and different types of plots and characterization. One day I'll read one book; the next I'll read another; I usually alternate between four. This may be hard to do, but I like being absorbed in more than one story.

Just left Irieth and Tooth and Claw (I'm on a bit of a dragon kick right now);

Just set out traveling with Finnikin of the Rock and his companions.

In the midst of:
Exploring the weird city in which humans and fantasy races live side-by-side in Goblin Moon by Teresa Edgerton;
Just trying not to get killed in A Storm of Swords.

So I have my balance of romance/sentiment, action, and darkness/cynicism.

Finished off a couple of books. First was Prince of Thorns, which was good though I didn't like quite as much as everyone else seemed to.

The second was A Different Kingdom, an early book of Paul Kearney's and was a solid portal fantasy set in Ireland.

Just finished reading the entire Hollows series by Kim Harrison in just over a week. I find myself on a bit of an urban fantasy kick because of it, so I'm about to start Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire. In addition, I'm listening to the audio of The Magicians finally...and I'm slogging through the not-very-good The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind. I may give up on it soon. His writing has gotten worse and worse and worse and worse... *sigh*

27 - There's a lot of rock music references and jokes, obviously. If you understand those, you'll probably like it more than you would otherwise. However, everyone seems to enjoy Death (the personification, that is).

Just finished Absolute Midnight and posted a two-star review. Frankly, I was disappointed, and I think the series is starting to pall on me, though I'll get the rest of the books (though I'm not panting in anticipation for them anymore) just to see how everything turns out. That's assuming Barker gets around to finishing the series.
