Monday is Thanksgiving in Canada and Columbus Day here in the US. Not much special planned besides trying to catch up on all the sleep I lost the last week. My daughter is probably coming home to spend time with us, even though she just spent some time with me attending my mother's funeral. Still feeling kind of emotional. My sisters and I made some toasts and shared some Bombay martini's by phone last night. We managed to dodge the frost the last two nights, but I think we're running out of time so I'll probably harvest a lot of my veggies and make a big pot of soup.
What will you be doing?

Ah, a big pot of soup, and a family to share it.
Going to rental house to talk with exterminator about mice and to see the new floor which is partially laid. I am excited. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary....

What type of soup?

I was hoping for a weekend of sport, food and rest - specifically F1, the World Cup, Euro qualifiers and Manchester Food and Drink Festival .... however OtherHalf mentioned the dreaded DIY words, and since we've given into temptation to goe places all year and done precisely zero DIY till now I might have to concede on this one.

Hockey starts for me today with a Kings game in Stockholm at noon. Then baseball playoff games this afternoon and evening. The weather's supposed to be nice Saturday and Sunday so i will probably stand over the newly-planted garlic, yelling at it to grow faster, dangit.

I'm taking part in a music workshop at Southwark Cathedral on Saturday then going to the theatre with a friend in the evening. On Sunday I have church in the morning, then my friend in Philadelphia is calling so we can make arrangements for my visit next week. In the evening, I'm going to hear a performance of Britten's War Requiem.
My guess would be vegetable soup, given the aforementioned harvest. What do you mean, which kind of vegetable soup? ;-)

#3 - Whatever is ripe! My guess is it will have an heirloom tomato & herb base, and be filled with roasted white eggplant, fennel and both hot and sweet red peppers. I have a lot of celery, too, but I don't want it to overpower everything else in the soup. And now I see the forecast is called for temps in the mid 80s all weekend, so the soup might have to wait.

Saturday I have dance class, board game group, and a friend's birthday party. In three different cities, none of them the one I live in. I'll probably crash at my friend's house overnight since her parties usually go pretty late. Luckily I have no plans on Sunday, so it doesn't matter when I get home. I just need to remember to pack a bag in the morning before I head off to class...

I don't have much going on. Probably a trip to the library and grocery store. Yawn. My girlfriend is the one having all the fun. She's attending the Great Pumpkin Beer Festival. I'd go, but I can't stomach the vast majority of the pumpkin-flavored beer. I've gone in previous years, but my heart just isn't in it this time. I'm glad she'll have the company of several friends there.
She'll also be a panelist at this weekend's GeekGirlCon. I'm proud of her.

I'm starting my Thanksgiving weekend early with a holiday today (4 day weekend! Yay!) and I haven't got much scheduled beyond a hair cut this afternoon and dinner at my in-laws' house on Sunday. I do have a long "to-do" list though.
I have a LOT of veg to deal with, especially the tomatoes which are currently hosting a massive fruit fly infestation so, like clamairy, I'll be making some kind of harvest soup. Mine will feature some combination of beans, leeks, tomatoes, onions, celery, squash, potatoes, beets, and whatever else is on hand.
I will also be making beet-horseradish relish and green tomato mincemeat (trying a new recipe which leaves out the repeated boiling/draining of the tomatoes and adds candied ginger - yum!).
And yard work. Lots of garden cleanup.
All this will be somewhat complicated by my left thumb still being wrapped in gauze, but I've got some rubber gloves and these little finger cot things (they look like nothing so much as tiny condoms) to put over it so should be able to keep it clean.
It won't be all work, of course. I also have a lovely pile of books to read and the kittens to play with.

Busy for the long weekend. Relaxing and reading today. Market shopping and meal prep tomorrow, then family all coming for dinner on Sunday. Monday will be more relaxing and reading. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous right through 'til Tuesday, so we might try to get in a leisurely drive around the countryside sometime too.
Happy Thanksgiving and Columbus Day and ordinary weekend to everyone!

My brother is getting married tomorrow, so it will be a busy day. They are having a small, private ceremony followed by a reception/party at their home.
Other than that, I don't have any special plans other than the usual day to day things.

Nothing really planned. Woke up to a headache this morning and immediately rolled over and went back to sleep, to wake up rested sans headache around 11AM. Going over to my parents' house for dinner tonight. Other than that, nothing planned.

I went to see Festival of Russian Ballet last night, twas great, they are some seriously awesome dancers in the Imperial Russian Ballet Company!!!
Today I'm at work fro a few hours, then off to talk to The Cat Corner (a rescue place I'm trying to help out) about setting up an ebay store. I said I'd help however they want me to (apart from fostering which my kitties wouldnt cope with) & this is her first idea of how I can help her, so I need to find out exactly what she wants, how much she wants to spend & then figure out if its something I can actually do for her, lol...
Tomorrow I hope to not to have to leave the house & spend mst of the day on the couch finishing The Mists of Avalon :)

I worked from home today to offset the business travel to New York City earlier in the week. I've plenty of work to do still for the office, but also will have plenty to do elsewhere to keep my sanity and stress somewhat in balance. Shopping for socks, cooking two or three meals to get us through the next week and a quick reading at church on Sunday. Fortunately it's a three day weekend. Getting past the current spell of insomniac nights would be welcome as well. STRESS - it's a killer.

Been thinking about it, and tomorrow will be taken up with much needed cleaning around the apartment, along with finishing the Hero of Ages so I can get a belated start on the horror/weird fiction I want to spend the month doing. (it being October and Halloween and all. :D)

I will be taking a 3 hour car trip to pick apples. The town is Hood River. And they have a Fruit Loop that one can do to pick all sorts of apples. Some of the farms have warm cider and treats. We'll also check out a museum there that has antique planes and autos. Can't wait!

It's Thanksgiving weekend in Canada. Being vegetarian atheists we will forgo the usual festivities and instead we'll be chopping firewood to see us through the winter.
21Busifer
I'll do as little as I can get away with. Mainly because my work-week have been crazy, so I am all drained.
22Athabasca
I'm off to Glasgow on a book-buying expedition - can't wait! After that, housework and battling the paperwork into submission. I'm sure there will be reading and lurking on LT too.

#5 - Your post brings to mind one of my favorite Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel. I don't remember the title, but frog (or toad) plants a garden. :)
If it actually happens, I'll have four days off in a row starting on Sunday. Muchly needed. I'll believe it when it actually happens, because my luck lately with my days off has not been good.
I've been varnishing the floor in our guest room for three days now, tomorrow is the last coat. Then the floor has to sit for seven days before we load it down. Anyway, hopefully I can read, cook and have a day out with my friend on my days off. Other than that, not much planned.

I was planning to give blood platelets this afternoon, a 2 hour process, which generally leaves me feeling blah afterwards, making Blood Donation Day a Reading Day. But the blood center just called and their machine was broken, so we rescheduled. So now I don't know what my plans are. I suppose I could sweep the floors and clean the bathroom.

Going to the local farmer's market with my mom this morning. Meaning hoping its not raining so I can hang out and read while playing mule (ie carrying her groceries) before a free lunch (some of the most delicious vegetable quasedillas (spelling?) you've never tasted).

I cleaned, yesterday! A long overdue cleaning of my bedroom, which was beginning to resemble something worse than a pigsty. It was inspired by cleaning OH's living room the previous day.

Currently sitting in the middle of an Apple store at the mall playing with one of the new iMacs. The keyboard is driving me nuts. I swear this thing is smaller than the one in my powerbook.
29VivienneR
>28 DeusExLibrus: I love the iMac wireless keyboard. I can put it away so that my cat doesn't walk or sleep on it. And my desk looks so tidy. The size is perfect.
30DeusExLibrus
>29 VivienneR: Not saying there was anything wrong with it necessarily, just that it was hard typing on it after using a much larger keyboard for so long. Doubtless if I had one I'd get used to it after a while.

7th: I was recouping from my long drive.
8th: I went to the Stanford/Colorado football game.
9th: Seeing a friend off at the airport.

Sunday: Had planned to wash a window but it is 3°C outside. According to the converter this is 37.4° on the Fahrenheit scale. So perhaps I'm going to sit down and get some much-delayed writing done.
We'll see.
We'll see.

Saturday - did some garden clean up, preparatory to moving some more plants around. MIL came over for dinner and we prepared the stuffing for tomorrow.
Sunday - Turkey dinner with most of the family. I think there will be 18 of us this time round.
Monday - Family returns for leftover brunch and I hope to do more gardening, the actual moving around of plants. My irises are in dire need of dividing.

My brother's wedding was short and sweet. The reception was tons of fun. I spent time with friends that I had not seen in quite a while and had a chance to relax outside on a cool, clear night.
Today, I'm going to lunch with friends and enjoy the rainy day. :)

Sunday. The delicious smell of apple pie.
So, I did something worthwhile this weekend, after all ;-)

Spent a couple hours at the mall yesterday, including part of that time at an Apple store. They had a "memorial" out for Steve Jobs, if you could call a picture and a handful or two of flowers behind a small barrier a memorial. Will be at another mall today with another Apple store. Will be interesting to see how they stack up. You'd think when the founder of your company, who also created an industry for all intents and purposes dies you'd make a bigger deal of it.
38Busifer
#37 - I think it is important for Apple not to overdo it, from their own point of view - Disney almost folded after Walt Disney died and I think Apple is very conscious of the risks they run... and thus perhaps overdoes it the other way, instead?
39MrsLee
I slept about 10 hours, woke up and arranged a play date with my friend. Dinner and a movie, but I'm not sure where dinner will be (maybe Thai) or what the movie will be. Either the Rock 'em Sock 'em boxing robot movie with Hugh Jackman, or the Contagion movie with everybody else. The Boy and the Dolphin looks way too syrupy for my mood.
40Choreocrat
I'm going to a chilli party for lunch. It could get interesting!

Am back from hiking in the White Mountains. OMG so many tourists. You'd think no one had ever seen leaves before. funny. But my friend wanted to show me the Magical Birch Glade and so I drove up. It was magical even though we were late - the leaves had already turned and blown off. But I've never seen so many yellow and white birches in my life. Truly a magical glade. Pics coming whenever my computer cooperates. I've got a new one arriving Tuesday (supposedly).
42NorthernStar
Started out the weekend with only a planned hike on Saturday, and so far have done the hike; received two invitations for thanksgiving dinner (and one lunch); accepted one and ate lots of excellent food; loaned my oven for neighbours moose sausage curing; dug potatoes, carrots, and beets from the garden; snuggled with new kitten, who has finally acheived a name (MacDuff); and helped put out a trailer fire. And I still have one more day off! Happy thanksgiving to all those who celebrate it this weekend, and I hope everyone out there has much to be thankful for in your lives!

My friend and I opted for movies at home instead of the theater, none of the movies at the theater called to us, so we watched in this order: In the Nick of Time with Johnny Depp, a wonderful suspense/thriller, Stranger than Fiction, one of my favorite movies and a nice followup to the suspense of the first movie, then Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow a great tribute to the 40's and 50's sci-fi B movies and a fun ending to a great day. Her hubby watched that one with us and enjoyed it too.

NorthernStar: So sorry you had such a boring do-nothing day. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

oh so that was you parked on the side of the highway! oh wait, there was like 2000 cars.

I'm still on my weekend. Today is bliss. OH has the day off as well, so we took my car in to be smogged, then went to breakfast at the airport diner. A great little greasy spoon in all the best ways; crazy waitresses, no charm whatsoever, which of course, gives it charm, a view of the runway which isn't such a big deal in our tiny town, and loads of inexpensive really tasty greasy breakfast food. Then we came home and I went back to bed until 1pm. Now I'm lazing away the day until we go to visit his parents and out to dinner with them at another low-on-charm, high-on-flavor little Mexican restaurant.
53Choreocrat
I'm with MerryMary. I have no idea what that means.
54maggie1944
In Americanize "smog" is a combination of air pollution (smoke) and fog and is awful!!! I can imagine filling a car with noxious fumes but I just can't think...why this might happen? Is it like "swamping it out"? meaning flooding with water and then mopping it out the door? One might swamp out a garage, but a car??? Certainly does give one food for speculation and imagination, doesn't it? Oh, and I think Hilo, Hawaii, suffers from "vog" - volcanic dust + fog. Sounds pretty awful, too.
