Hi Everybody!
Let's figure out a way to discuss books here. Please post your ideas--maybe we could read a book every two weeks and discuss.
Also, would anyone be interested in a circulating dog toy box? That's where we create a member list and the first person on the list gathers a few of your dog's clean, unused toys, clothes, etc. and sends them on to the next person on the list. That person takes what they want, add something(s) and sends it to the next, and so on. Whatever's leftover/unclaimed is sent to that town's Animal Shelter.
Lemme know.

Maybe not. No offence.
Just I would prefer not give my address to people. Good idea, though. Also don't we all have different types of dogs? So a labby book would not interest a ShizTzu lover, you know? Thank you, anyway

I just saw this topic, and as a dog lover I felt compelled to join to comment on it.
Postage rates just went up, and circulating the toy box would cost more than getting a used item from it is worth.
Why not donate extra toys and other items straight to a shelter, and also donate the money you'd have spent on postage?

Don't we all do that anyway? (Donate stuff) We could somehow contact that timspalding dude and ask how to do a Librarything donation fund for doggies/ dog shelters?

Ok, I think the circulate toys idea has faded but what happened to the let's talk about dog books: nonfiction on dog owning or fiction with dog characters looming large. Did everyone read Marley? is that already too long ago? Did you cry nearly uncontrollably at the end? Friends to whom I lent the book had to take turns reading aloud to each other so they could also take turns being emotional. Any recently read books you would suggest?

Hi Maggie: Have you read "I Have Heard You Calling in the Night" by Thomas Healy? Healy was a self-described "drunk, a fighter, sometimes a writer, often unemployed, no strager to the police" ... Then one day he bought a pup-a Doberman.
Also the Cindy Adams books.
Sorry to have been inactive here for so long; I am under the doctors' care and taking a quiet summer.

Hi JackieAndGus:
I was surprised to see a dog group so quiet. I thought I'd hear alot of sniffing and barking...
I have two miniature schnauzers and they keep me from sitting at the computer too long. Had a great walk yesterday under some power lines and picked blackberries which grow wild here. Way too wild! they will take over your house and car, but they are nice in August when the berries are ripe.
I have been writing down book suggestions from LT, but since I am getting most books from the library rather than buying them, I am a bit slow in trying things out. But thank you for the suggestion! and I'll give it a go soon.
I am sorry you have been unwell. I hope the doctor might prescribe lots of posting messages on LT, or if not that, lots of reading (-;

I do love the Shiloh books. Probably everyone has read them but still a good book. Another great dog book, Where the Red Fern Grows. A great classic. Let's see here. Old Yeller, Stone Fox, and Shelter Dogs: Amazing Stories of Adopted Strays. All books I have.
Hope you get better soon Jackie. Gus will keep you company.

Yes. I LOVED Marley and Me that was the best book I'v ever read! I cried so much. And the book that scared the heck out of me was Where the Red Fern Grows... if you've read it...the ending... the personalities of the dogs is so simler to mac and beddy...

How about reading Shelter Dogs together? I am reading a Mark Twain book with some folks from Green Dragon so I would want to do this later, maybe the beginning of September? What do you think? Is there another book that might be good to read together and discuss?
