I've added—reintroduced—the ability to "force" touchstones.

To force a touchstone, preface your touchstone with the work or author code you want to link to, followed by "::". This "forces" the touchstone to use the code you provided, rather than the search string after it. So, for example, if you write:

[careylisa::Mark Twain]] is the author of [3702989::Huckleberry Finn]. You should really read it.

You will get these links.

Mark Twain is the author of Huckleberry Finn. You should really read it.

When you re-edit, these touchstones will continue to be shown. But, in contrast to previous functionality, editing posts does not insert work and author codes. (But work and author codes do not "stick" reliably, so this shouldn't be necessary.)

Can I work on lists now, please? :)

I guess that's allowed.

Thank you. It's good to see this back. I didn't use it regularly, but often enough that I've missed it.

Lists? That would explain why swine have suddenly become aerodynamic.

Thanks for doing this. I'd support work on Lists now ;)

But I'd still like a "copy post with touchstones" option like jjwilson proposed in the other thread. I agree that that would be a lot cleaner than actually showing the work numbers, and likely to be more broadly used.

LISTS! Don't listen to anyone else. Sign a pizza delivery subscription, send your family on a long vacation to India, and stop logging in to these fora. (Except for fixing L10N bugs that I point out, of course.)

I just used this - yay! The Gray King, for some weird reason, comes up with Idylls of the King by Tennyson. I want it to be the book by that exact title by Susan Cooper - but that's not on the Others list (of 21 books). So I put the work number in The Gray King and it came right up. Perfect.

Oh, so very happy about this, thanks!

Could someone point me to a thread about Lists so I can see what it's about?

>18 Smiler69: Here's an RSI thread about lists, though that may not reflect what actually happens.
