Watch a movie with a December holiday theme

This includes Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or Yule.

Unless it becomes cumbersome, I'll list movies (planned and watched) in the second post.

RULES:

You can watch movies you own, on cable/satellite TV, from a rental service such as Netflix, from your library, online or in the theater.

Miniseries and made for TV movies are acceptable but episodes of a TV series are not.

Documentaries are allowed.

"Shorts" are not allowed (i.e. less than 30 minutes.)

Movies do NOT need to be based on books.

I watch Love Actually every Christmas.

One of my favorite Christmas movies too, Morphy! Must plan a watching soon.

My favourite Christmas movie is Die Hard.

My second favourite Christmas movie is the original version of We're No Angels, which actually is a Christmas movie, albeit a rather blackly humorous one.

I love it! I'm definitely planning to watch Miracle on 34th St., assuming it will be playing regularly on television. I'm also hoping to watch the recent version of A Christmas Carol, since I bought it for $3 at a closing Borders, if only I can manage to find it now that the season's arrived....

Die Hard is acceptable. The movie doesn't have to be totally about Christmas, but must have something related to Christmas. Die Hard has been mentioned on some Christmas lists I've seen.

I'll be watching Scrooged, which is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol and, of course It's a Wonderful Life, but that wasn't a book, was it.
This evening I'll be watching the movie version of one of my all time favorite books, Snowflower and the Secret Fan. It doesn't exactly qualify, does it?

From Wikipedia - It's a Wonderful Life is a 1946 Hollywood Christmas drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra and based on the short story "The Greatest Gift" written by Philip Van Doren Stern.

It's up to Morphy but it might count:)

Movies don't need to be based on books this month! They just need to be about a December holiday.

However, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan doesn't qualify for December's Movie TIOLI as it isn't about Christmas* at all nor is Christmas celebrated.

We watched "White Christmas" last night. I never get tired of the song "Sisters", especially as done by Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby!

I think my favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas in Connecticut. Possibly because I'm from Connecticut, granted, but still! Hopefully I'll get to see it again this year.

I'm watching the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol right Noel - it's my second fave after the Patrick Stewart version.

This week we have watched "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" (I think it counts--about 30 minutes), "The Santa Clause", and "The Polar Express."

I watched the first half of the Hogfather miniseries, but decided that I want to read the book before I watch the rest. It's top of my TBR so it won't be long. Then perhaps I'll re-watch the mini series.

I watched 'Love, Actually' after my son's fiancee said it was her favorite movie. Apparently, our tastes diverge. Blech!

I watched A Christmas Story for the first time. It was weird but amusing.

I notice you said made for TV movies are acceptable, so I'll go for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I noticed it in our ancient school library video collection yesterday -- with Loretta Swit, it couldn't be all bad!

OK, I couldn't resist watching The Best Christmas Pageant Ever this evening. It was terribly dated, but the Christmas carols sounded pretty. Whoever played Alice (the "good girl") was wonderful -- I'll have to google and see if she's made it big in the last 25 years.

ETA: Ocean Hellman -- not real big, but many TV roles to her credit.

Watched "It's A Wonderful Life" yesterday and tonight "A Christmas Carol" (the Patrick Stewart version, which I've never seen before.)

not exactly classics but I watched Home Alone and Home Alone 2 on TV this week while wrapping presents. I loved those movies as a kid so it was nostaligic.

We'll be watching Desk Set tonight with our Christmas Eve dinner of rib eye roast, mashed potatoes and green beans.

"Desk Set" is one or my all-time favorite movies. I used to teach a course that had a section on the history of computers. Since most of the students in the class were too young to remember anything besides desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablets, etc., I would show the part of that movie where "Emmy" had been installed. They could really see how far computers have come. It was always one of the best classes of the semester on what could have been a dull topic.

We're now about to watch 'Santa Buddies' from Disney

I now have a new favorite movie for the Holidays. 'Santa Buddies' !

I watched Scrooged while wrapping presents and was going to watch It's a Wonderful Life last night, but didn't have time. Maybe I'll get to it tonight. It's my ultimate favorite holiday movie. If I could only find my copy of Auntie Mame that'd be another holiday favorite.

I have never seen 'It's a Wonderful Life'!

Genny, It's a Wonderful Life is such a treat. It used to play repeatedly throughout December in the US, a movie beloved by the Occupy Wall Street sympathizers. I think it didn't do well when it was released in 1946 but has since become a classic Christmas movie, though not a typical one. It's about a hard working, responsible man, George Baily, who, in spite of doing the right thing throughout his life is frustrated by misfortunes and the evil, money grubbing Mr. Potter. He gets despondent and contemplates suicide and his guardian angel, goofy Angel Second Class Clarence, comes down from heaven to save him by showing him what life would have been like in the world if he hadn't been born. It's a wonderful movie, you should see it if you can.

It's a Wonderful Life is my favorite Christ-mas movie, followed by White Christmas and Holiday Inn, not a one of which I was able to see this year.

#37 I do intend to see it, one day! I'm sure it must have been on TV over here too, though not perhaps quite such a regular fixture as in the US. White Christmas and Holiday Inn always seem to be on, but I've just never run into Wonderful Life when I've been free to look at the schedule. Our local arts cinema always does a special pre-Christmas showing of it round about the 23rd December, but life is just too madly busy at that time to get to the cinema...
