christmas tree perspective

I remember a sentimental, almost Hans Christian Andersen-like story, told from the perspective of a tree. It ends up beautifully decorated with tinsel in a home, and then is burnt. As in, the story is told from the perspective of the tree as it is burning.

I suspect there are more than one of these, but this made a deep impression on me as a kid, and I'd love to find it ...

I just someone talking about that on the radio recently! I'm pretty sure that is The Fir Tree by Hans Christian Andersen.

Do you mean like Andersen's "The Pine Tree" (link to full story)? Although the burning bit is only a small part at the end.

I believe that one of these is probably it. Are they exactly the same story? They seem to be.

Different translations, perhaps? The "Fir-Tree" actually sounds more familiar to my ear than "Pine Tree", but the latter is what popped up first when I googled.

Yeah, probably translational issues. Certainly the lachrymose story was Hans Christian Andersen! I wonder why I couldn't find it when I looked ....
