Well, I don't know whether he was trying to be funny or what with y'awl. Someone should have told him that it is not all that funny for Southerners when Yankees make fun of our accents.
But I really liked the Mormon joke.
Bob Dole was also a person whose sense of humor was not appreciated. Not until he started doing Viagra commercials.

For all the hype about his woodenness, Romney, I submit, actually has the most sophisticated -- and underappreciated -- sense of humor of any presidential candidate. It is dry, self-deprecating and a bit dark, a far cry from the safely hokey laugh lines of most politicians on the stump. And it bespeaks a confidence and flair not often attributed to the much-maligned candidate.
But the problem for Romney is that he simply does not have the reputation for being funny, self-deprecating, dark, or otherwise.
Politicians who do have a reputation for being humorous (or at least those that don't have a reputation for doing a great impersonation of a cigar store Indian), like Bill Clinton or George W. Bush, can get away with this kind of stuff with a little wink. If Romney tried to do that, someone would just think he had dirt in his eye.

Arctic,
I did not recognize your Southern accent with all the Alaska talk.

>2 Arctic-Stranger:
Bob Dole and Viagra was always such a horrific thought.
At least they have started using younger good looking men. However, this tends to make the whole idea behind the commercial, less than credible.
Bob Dole was probably more realistic.
>3 Bretzky1:
Mitt Romney is missing something. I don't know what it is but he is "off". I don't think he is a nasty person or that he is unfriendly, he just can not connect to people who are not in his league. When he tries to say things he thinks they want to hear, he sounds rediculous.
Can't put my finger on it but it has something to do with putting a dog on the roof of a car and driving for eight hours. He wasn't being intentionally cruel.....he just didn't "get it". Much like most of what he says...."off".
