I have a book (Skeleton Creek book 1) whose cover does not show in the "cover view" but the book is viewable under "list view". Unfortunately, without the cover, there is no link to the book in "cover view" --- which is my preferred view.

I have tried deleting and re-adding the book a few times to no avail.

Please advise.

When I search your library, I find that all four of your Skeleton Creek books show covers, whether in list view with covers showing, or in cover view.

Can you try another browser on the same machine? Also try pressing shift+reload to see if you can force it to load the image. There may be something weird with the browser caching the image incorrectly or something.

Weird. I have tried on several browsers (IE 9, Chrome 17) , and have had the same issue on my older laptop (FF 10) as well.

ps
I just downloaded and installed FF 11 and no go on it either. If it's a caching problem it's doing it on 3 browsers.

pps
It does show in list view with covers showing.

{grumble} Can I just say how much I really dislike the over-reliance on ajax for basic page-rendering and navigation things? Maybe it looks pretty to have the covers animate in like that, or to have a lightbox pop up when you click on the cover. But I would much prefer a simple set of images, coded with html, with simple links to the work or book page, rather than lightboxes. {/grumble}

At any rate, I can't figure out where in the layers of code is the bit telling the page to load these specific books/images. Probably there's a bug there somewhere.

PS, I'm not sure why it would matter, but perhaps it does:
Looking at the books in list view, with covers visible...
http://www.librarything.com/catalog/johnnysgirl668&deepsearch=Skeleton+Creek

... if you right click on the images to see the image source, and look at the URL, the three covers that *are* working fine are all located at pics.librarything.com etc. The one that's not showing up in cover view, however, is located at images.amazon.com.

However, I've no idea why that would make a difference. I've switched between list view and cover view in my own catalog, and my cover images from Amazon are showing up just fine in cover view.

#5 by @rsterling> I'm not sure why, either (especially since I haven't dug into the javascript). But what you say lights a little bulb over my head making me wonder if it's a cross-domain permissions problem.

Hey jonnysgirl668, just to double-check, can you see this image of a cover?

ETA: Never mind. See below.

AHA! I figured it out. Sorta. It's a SIZE thing. If I set the cover view to the third size option, the image is gone. I think this is an amazon problem. The image URL is this:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0545075661.01._SX99_SY142_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

But it just shows a blank 1x1 pixel image.

Aha! But if johnnysgirl668 has managed to block Amazon images, it would produce this effect... but you can see the image in list view... grump. Well, maybe not. But it's a possibility. You might look (in Firefox) in Tools>Options>Content> the Exceptions button for Load Images Automatically - see if Amazon or images.amazon is listed, and if so delete it. Not sure what the equivalent is for other browsers, but I'm sure they have it. But it's happening in multiple browsers... no, that can't be it.

Well, at least I've eliminated a possibility.

7> Actually - it's that (bloody) 1x1 image again! But why it should show up only on one size option, I don't know.

Thank you all. Yes once I changed the book image to a user uploaded one it became visible. Thank you thank you.

I agree, the "beauty" over "functionality" issues with ajax can be annoying if not hair-pulling-frustrating. But I use the covers view when out shopping for books for the kids. It's faster to glance at a photo than to read the titles. *blush*

Thank you again.
