Hi! This is a very difficult bug.
Please see /search.php?search=Erdos%2C+Paul&searchtype=authorname first and remember the results.
The please go to /topic/134227 "testcases - links with VIAF numbers in anchors".
Please look at the "About" container.
Klick on the "Add/change…" link.
Klick on the "Search" link.
Klick on the "Authors" selector
Insert "Erdos, Paul" in the search field and hit "Search".
You will see:
Paul Erdős (author)
Paul Erdos
Paul Erdös (author)
Paul L. Erdos (author)
Physiker Erdös, Ungarn, Schweiz Paul (author)
Paul Erdós (author)
Erdos Paul & Spencer Joel (author)
All the "(author)" links are missing. The author url (trailer) they are /author/.
That url generates only a message "No author selected".
It seams that only an if statement about the aviability of the author url (trailer) is required to avoid such situations.
I tested different author names. The more combined versions are available the more chances I have to get valid urls from start (before selecting the author == before clicking on the add icon).
----
It seams that also some cached information might be involved.
If I search for "Muller, Herta" no "(author)" are available at all. This was not the case before I added it to the "About" container at /topic/75008 "collaborative work on Herta Müller"
Please confirm. Thanks in advance for your time!

Here an author with one work and one author url only:
remember the unique result from /search.php?search=Florian+Reissinger&searchtype=authorname
make two tests
a) instead of Insert "Erdos, Paul" in the search field and hit "Search".
Insert "Florian Reissinger" in the search field and hit "Search".
b) instead of Insert "Erdos, Paul" in the search field and hit "Search".
Insert "Reissinger, Florian" in the search field and hit "Search".
In both cases I get "No author selected" message / page when clicking on the (author) link. That should be a pop up only.

internal memo: tests at /topic/134596 "testing Touchstones - overview"

gangleri, you may have noticed that your many recent bugs aren't getting much attention to staff; they're probably having as many problems as the rest of us with understanding what exactly you're talking about, and how the many, many bugs that all seem to pertain to author URLs differ from one another. I think part of the issue is that your method of bug reporting is much more formal than most people's here, so we have trouble telling what are details and what the actual problem is. It might help if you give a brief overview of the general nature of the problem, before giving the explicit instructions about how to reproduce. Most of us, and certainly the staff, are familiar with the basic operations of LT; if you want to talk about doing an author search, or adding a touchstone, you're safe just telling us to do that, rather than describing everything in click-by-click detail.
For instance, in #2, I see a single result for the author search you describe for Florian Ressinger, either as first last or last, first, whether I follow your link or type the name in myself. Which "search field", specifically, are you referring to? I see that the name fails to touchstone, but that's completely unrelated to adding authors or to the author search -- is that what you're complaining about?

>Thanks for the time and the patience! Please look at the right and see the green "Touchstones" container.
Do you see above an "About" container? It contains now (in Esperanto)
"Pri"
Paul Erdős
"Add/change…"
I never worked with that container before. I really like it because "/talk" (filters) supports it. The feature is great !!! The problem is that some minor issues need to be fixed / some cleaning is required.

Ah, the super-touchstones! Just calling it "add" was confusing me.
I don't think that's intended to work unless the touchstone has already been added to the thread in the normal manner (i.e. by enclosing the title in square brackets, or the author's name in double square brackets). Can I ask why you're trying to use it in that manner? Even if it does work, it is presumably subject to the same known issues as regular touchstones; author touchstones in particular have for a very long time been so buggy as to be essentially unusable; that's improved somewhat from the worst times, but it's probably still at the root of your problem here.
I still don't really understand what this has to do with the detailed inner workings of the author search, though.

I am working at some author lists both for Esperanto /topic/134638 "Premioj kaj honoroj - unupaj ligiloj"
and for Yiddish /topic/134611 "Group tags"
These authors are combined already. They have some pictures, CK, links etc. If I invite some friend they do neither need to start with "1984" nor with "2007".

Closing. Please resubmit as discrete, replicable bugs I have an easier time understanding. Sorry to be a pain.
