Time to buy or reserve the May read: Tea with the Black Dragon by R. A. MacAvoy.
I had to order mine via interlibrary loan so I'm wondering how hard this one will be to get a hold of for others.

It appears that I have a copy from 1983. I don't think that I have ever read it. Probably a good time to fix that.

Janny recommended this one to me ages ago and I picked up a copy from AbeBooks. Cool, now to dig it out from under in the TBR pile.

Love this book!! It was re-released in 2001, and is available on Kindle and Nook.

I have my copy, it was a definite keeper. I'll pull it down from the loft (where the fiction is shelved).

Oooh, but its not a standalone.... Must get both books...
I just searched bookfinder & found that most available copies are published by E-Rights/E-Reads Ltd... For those that have copies, any reason to go for a 2nd hand Bantam Books copy rather than a new Ereads one???

Yippee! A "Fantasy Read" that I want to do!
I've read Tea With the Black Dragon, but don't own it...maybe I can find a copy within the next week or so!
EDIT: Public library does not have a copy.
Abebooks.com had a copy in near fine condition.
Ordered, hopefully will get here by May 1st!

I ordered a copy on amazon, which arrived a couple of weeks ago. The day after I placed the order, I was in a second-hand bookshop and spotted a copy of the sequel! So now both books are on the tbr pile, waiting for May.

Ordered the book tonight, so count me in too!

My copy arrived today! I want to start it now!
...but I'll wait.
How does the "May Fantasy Read" work? Do we only read one chapter at a time or what?

Read it at your leisure. I try to read it by the first week or so of month. I'll also start a spoiler thread on the first.

Oh, today is a great day for goin' to the used book stores. First, the dentist this morning, then, the afternoon is free for book stalking!

Question: is Twisting the Rope the sequel?
17Morphidae
>16 maggie1944: LibraryThing says yes.

Tea with the Black Dragon stands on its own. No cliffhanger, in fact, no indication there was a sequel in sight at the time it was written.
If you like the first, then go on to Twisting the Rope but there's no need to plan with this in mind. The first story on its own is very satisfying.

fuzzi, perfect weekend reading. Janny, I'm so glad you recommended this book, I really enjoyed it. I'm going to have to re-read Trio for Lute now too, MacAvoy's writing is wonderful.

Nothing really to start. Make any non-spoiler comments here and spoiler comments on the other thread when I start it tomorrow.

I've started reading, even amongst all the other books I am reading! I am hooked! But now I need to find time to do the reading....

Finished my "at home" book last night, so I'm starting this when I get in this evening. Can't wait!

Yay! My book has arrived. As soon as I get done with the Terry Pratchett book I'm reading, I'll be joining in.

I had forgotten how beautifully MacAvoy can move a tale along, bringing it to life with carefully picked, masterfully orchestrated detail. Gorgeous work.
