My favorite Fuentes novel: The Death of Artemio Cruz, but I didn't read Terra Nostra beyond the first chapter, which gave me nightmares.

He deserved a Nobel Prize as much as anybody until he wrote Diana, a novel about his fling with Jean Seberg.

Politically he was leftward when required, very outspoken during the '80s when Reagan's wars were fought south of his border.

Terra Nostra has been on TBR for ages.

I've read three or four Fuentes novels. My favorite is one no one ever talks about, Christopher Unborn.
