young girl doesnt want to be a witch like her aunt, she has a small friend that no one can see but herself, but he was suppose to leave her years ago and be replaced by a witch's fimilar but since she wouldnt accept her role he cant leave. she has to deal with a bully everyday that is cruel, and learns to accept a boy that likes her that she finds out later is a witch and apart of a witches circle. the boy she had a crush on, is starving to death after his father abandoned him. in the end she comes to terms with her gift saves her crush by turning him into a hawk and setting him free. she starts dating the other wtich, stands up to the bully without using her powers. and finally recieves her fimailar which is a cat. the book ends with her sweeping her families storefront with her cat beside her. she laughs because she is a witch with a broom and her cat.

Definitely The Other Ones, but I don't think she "saves" her crush -- it was a bit sadder than that.
