I finished Glorious Angel and started Heart of thunder both by Johanna Lindsey.

Julia, you aren't reading Sins Of A Duke? I got my copy this morning, along with Into the Dark, the latest in Cindy Gerard's Bodyguard Series; Jo Beverley's newest Rogues book, Lady Beware and Sandra Schwab's Castle of the Wolf! It's going to be a good week for reading.

Well....the library that I took to work with me today just wasn't cutting it. Not in the mood right now for a long complex historical fiction series. So I popped over to B&N for something to read on my lunch and found Spirited Away by Cindy Miles, a medieval knight ghost haunting a castle that an archeologist is excavating. I'll let you know how it turns out!

>3 Ilithyia: That does sound interesting!

I started An Abundance of Katherines last night but had such a crappy icky day today I think I feel the need for something a bit more romantic and engrossing. So, I'm off to start Wolf Tales which my mom said was very steamy and will hopefully cheer me up a bit.

CC, the new releases take about 2-3 weeks to reach Germany. SOAD is scheduled for 12th-19th of June.

I am reading Julie Anne Long's new book The Secret To Seduction. Next up is the new one by Suzanne Enoch, Sins of a Duke. I can't wait to read that one but I want to be closeted away where no one can bother me as I love Suzanne's books.

7CarolinaCatherine
Jun 5, 2007, 7:56 am

PM, me, too! I'm saving SOAD until this weekend.

Julia, I think we should definitely start a new thread for Suzanne, like we did Lisa Kleypas. I'll try to hold off commenting or discussing it until you've read it! :)

CC

Jun 5, 2007, 10:49 am

Yes, we should discuss it in another thread, since a lot of us were waiting for SOAD, I believe.

But start whenever you feel like it, I'll just ignore the thread till then.

Finished Once in a Blue Moon by Penelope Willamson. It was pretty good. I liked her Keeper of the Dream more than this one.

Read White Lion's Lady by Tina St. John. My first book by her and I enjoyed it. I read it in about a day and last night i started the second book Black Lion's Bride.

I Spy by Jacey Ford
Seduced by the Night by Robin T. Popp
Made for Sin by Celia May Hart
Her Only Desire by Gaelen Foley

I started reading Marliss Melton's Time To Run, but I just didn't find it all that interesting.

11CarolinaCatherine
Jun 5, 2007, 3:11 pm

Hey, Azn. Her Only Desire is a good one, and I agree, Melton's Time To Run was missing some oomph. I'm going to read the others in the series, though, just to finish it.

First time posting here. Hey all. :)

I just finished reading The Frog Prince by Jane Porter last night, and started on Texas Hero by Merline Lovelace. I'm clearing out my TBR mountain.

I stuck Sleeping with the Fishes by MaryJanice Davidson in my purse this morning but didn't have a chance to start it yet.

Hey, Sarad! Welcome!

Hope you like Sleeping with Fishes, it looks like it'll make a new series of stories like the Undead books. I rather liked it. :o)

Well the time has finally come and I've reached the bottom of my Nora Roberts pile more or less, so I tried my first In Death book over the weekend, and have finished 3 of them and ordered plenty more at the library so I can start from the beginning, but am feeling very impatient - I want to read them ALL NOW!!! LOL

So current reads this week have been (and this is very busy reading for me):
Born in Death
Innocent in Death
Vengeance in Death
Forget Me Not by Isabel Wolff

And I started Loyalty in Death this morning - can't wait to get back to it, and thank heavens I still have 20 other books to read in this series!

17AmandaB18
Jun 6, 2007, 3:15 pm

I'm now reading Years by LaVyrle Spencer. Haven't read one by her yet and so far I'm really liking it.

18Storeetllr
Jun 6, 2007, 4:22 pm

Hi, Mystik ~ J.D. Robb's In Death mystery series is so good, isn't it! I've loved seeing the characters grow and develop and look forward to each new installment. They are the kind of mystery novels that are wonderful to read even if the mystery isn't all that great because the characters and mileu are so compelling. Enjoy!

BTW, I haven't had a chance yet to start Sleeping with the Fishes, but I love her Undead stuff and her Alaskan royalty stuff so I'm sure I'll like this one.

19MystikNat
Jun 7, 2007, 5:43 am

Oh yes definitely, I just love the characters. Plot is great, but for me stories are always about the characters and Nora Roberts never fails on characterisation in what I've read of hers (and that's quite a few books now!). :oD

Think I've time for a bit more reading today!

I saw the latest Undead book (Undead and Uneasy) in Waterstones the other week, but it's quite pricey in large paperback... will have to wait for a bookcrossing bookring or the library!

20katybear
Jun 7, 2007, 12:49 pm

Finished Only a Duke Will Do and since I'm still waiting on getting ahold of Beware a Scot's Revenge, I'm shifting gears for a bit. Started Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini last night. Someone mentioned it in the Pirates thread a while back and I've always loved the movie, so... I'm curious to see if the romance between Errol Flynn and Olivia de Haviland's characters in the movie is the same in the book. Sometimes Hollywood "romances up" a story for the movie version when there isn't any romance in the book...

21Ilithyia
Jun 7, 2007, 1:15 pm

Finished Spirited Away yesterday - very cute. Think My Heart Stood Still but with a different twist. I really enjoyed it, a nice debut from new author who seems to be specializing in ghost romances.
And last night I reread Naked in Death for the gazillionth time so I could loan it to a friend today. This morning started Fantasy Lover, another reread so I can lend to said friend.
Not sure yet what I'll start tomorrow, hopefully one of the 27 library books I have out!

22MystikNat
Jun 7, 2007, 4:11 pm

I am finally able to start Naked in Death as I managed to finish off Loyalty in Death tonight, so the commute to work tomorrow means I can at last start reading the series from the beginning. :oD

I found Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie at my public library and read it last night. It was great. This review from Amazon.com says it very well: "Bet Me is unabashedly, irrepressibly romantic. In the wacky, wonderful world of Min and Cal, author Jennifer Crusie leaves no humorous situation unexplored--no potential comedic cauldron left unstirred--no hysterically funny complication left undeveloped. The reader is treated to a seemingly mismatched hero and heroine who fling caution to the winds to explore their unexpected attraction. The sexual tension is hot, the dialogue witty and wickedly sarcastic, and the supporting cast of secondary characters hilarious. Like Min's favorite Krispy Kreme donuts, this novel is rich and sinfully delicious. Indulge. Enjoy. --Lois Faye Dyer"

Richlib, I'm so glad you brought up this book. It is one of my favorites. It cracks me up and I love the line where Cal tells Mins mom that she isn't too big for the dress-the dress is too small for her.No book has sounded good lately, thanks for reminding me of this one.

I finished my last Johanna Lindsey book Heart of thunder last night. Now I have to wait a full year for her next paperback to come out. :(

This morning I started Summer lovin' by Carly Phillips after all these historicals, I was in need of a contemporary romance.

Julia

26MystikNat

I think Bet Me was my favourite Crusie read, it was the first of her books I tried, and nothing quite matched how much I liked that read - fun very fun. LOL

Jun 8, 2007, 9:08 am

I finished Bobbie Fay's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day & enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The whole book occurs in one day in the "accident, waiting for a place to happen" life of Bobbie Faye Sumrall. Very humorous, wacky & quite entertaining, I had a hard time giving this book a tag. It doesn't really fit in as a romance although, there are a couple of hot guys in her life. For a first book, I thought the writing was quite good & will definitely be interested in her next book.

I started Into the Dark by Cindy Gerard - can't wait to see how Dallas & Amy's story goes.

Jun 8, 2007, 11:29 am

I am in New York for the summer so I have very few books with me. I did, however, read Julia Quinn's An Offer from a Gentleman as well as Jillian Hunter's The Wicked Games of a Gentleman and The Sinful Nights of a Nobleman. I enjoyed them all very much but I expected I would. CC, you recommended one of Jillian Hunter's a while back and I am glad I continued with the Boscastle clan.

Last night I went to Borders and bought Sins of a Duke so I will be reading it right along with all of you this weekend. Which I guess will make up for not having the Kleypas book with me to do the monthly read.

29CarolinaCatherine
Jun 8, 2007, 11:33 am

Richard, Bet Me is also my favorite Jennifer Crusie book, followed closely by Charlie All Night or Crazy For You. Have you read either of those?

Callady, that was my favorite line as well. And for weeks after I read it the first time, I was obsessed with Chicken Marsala.

Book, you will love Into The Dark. I want a Bodyguard, too! :)

CC

30Richlib
Jun 8, 2007, 1:18 pm

Callady and CC, I liked all the parts where Min was blistering Cal's family and where Cal was doing the same to Min's. My very favorite was the dinner at Cal's parent's house. Min was fantastic there.

Charlie All Night was one of my first Jennifer Crusie books, and Crazy For You is on my TBR list.

I read Gideon by Jacqueline Frank on Monday and was kind of disappointed. It wasn't nearly as good as I thought Caleb was.

Read All the Queens Men by Linda Howard and wasn't as impressed this time either.

Maybe I'm just tired and shouldn't read for a while?

Have seven books picked for this weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to be a little more positive in my next post!!!

33callady
Jun 8, 2007, 11:30 pm

CC the Chicken Marsala I tried wasn't as good as I thought it would be was yours?
Richlib, I loved the dinners, remember when Cal said "well they let me eat bread" I loved that
BeretBrenckman I just finished Gideon I thought it took about a hundred pages before it really got into the story. I totally agree, not as good as Jacob.
I just started Witch Fire by Anya Bast so far so good.

34CarolinaCatherine
Jun 9, 2007, 12:16 pm

Callady, Chicken Marsala is now one of my favorite things to eat, as my hips will attest.

I pulled Bet Me from the shelf last night and read it again straight through in about two hours. I really love that love story. That's what I want Crusie to write, not this collaborative stuff with someone else. Give me back my pure Crusie genius!

Last night I read all but a chapter and one-half of Mona Lisa Awakening, I had to stop because it was after 2:00 a.m. and I simply couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. I finished the book first thing this morning. It was really very interesting! I've already requested Mona Lisa Blossoming from the library.

37anamuhandis
Jun 9, 2007, 3:22 pm

I just finished Lisa Plumley's Perfect Together. It hit the spot! I've put down several books without finishing them lately because they seem to be all sex and no relationship, and this one had the perfect blend of both.

38CarolinaCatherine
Jun 9, 2007, 4:59 pm

Hi, Ana. That's one of Plumley's I haven't read, but I love her historical Westerns. I'll have to put PT on my wish list.

Katy, I predict you'll be glomming Crusie after reading Bet Me. It is fabulous.

Got me interested in Bet Me too, so when I was returning a book to the library today (well, two, but one I meant to renew, not return, damnfool that I am. I had to reserve it again when I realized it.) I looked for it and found it on the shelves. I read straight through; it's one of the funniest romantic comedies I've read in years.

41katybear

CC, et. al. - Yep, I'm totally going to glom all the Crusie I can get my hands on now!

I managed to read a few books while waiting for LT to work out its kinks, including E. C. Sheedy's Without A Word (boring), Wild and Wicked in Scotland by Melody Thomas (very good) and Sins of a Duke by Suzanne Enoch (Julia, don't read this-very disappointing); and I am about to start on some of July's Harlequin historicals: Seduction of an English Beauty by Miranda Jarrett, Untamed Cowboy by Pam Crooks and The Stranger by Elizabeth Lane.

44pmpayne
Jun 14, 2007, 7:10 am

CC - I was also disappointed in Sins of a Duke. I didn't really care for the storyline and I thought Josephina was totally wrong for Sebastion. I did finish it and there were parts that I liked but on the whole it didn't measure up to her others in the series.

45Jenson_AKA_DL
Jun 14, 2007, 8:13 am

Guess I'll have to put Bet Me on my list of books to request from the library!!

I started Jamie by Lori Foster last night. Only a couple chapters in but I'm liking it so far.

46bookbeat
Jun 14, 2007, 8:45 am

I'm going to try to post if I can stop shaking so much from the DT's; the result of LT being down.

CC, I finished Into the Dark (The Bodyguards) & really enjoyed it, but I found myself more drawn to Gabe & Jenna. Hopefully she'll write their story next.

Then I read Say You Love Me by Rita Herron & couldn't put it down. New Orleans Cajun detective with hot brothers who will be featured in future books & a heroine who works for an erotica magazine. What's not to love? ;)

Started Virtually His by Gennita Low & it's started off a little slow, but I'm sticking with it.

PM, I'm going to open a new thread on Sins of a Duke so we don't spoil it for Julia and the others who haven't read it yet.

Book, I love all the Bodyguards, and thought Dallas' story would be my favorite, but I gotta say that so far, Manny's is the best. I'm also looking forward to Gabe.

CC

48bookbeat

Well, I finished Texas Hero, which was decent but the plot was better than the character development. On now to another ancient SIM, Grayson's Surrender by Catherine Mann.

Am about halfway through The Taste of Innocence by Stephanie Laurens.

56BeretBrenckman
Jun 15, 2007, 11:27 pm

Finished the Tast of Innocence by Stephanie Laurens ...seemed a bit like par for the course. Very much like others in the Cynster series. But out of five stars...three and a half.

Also reread Heart Thief by Robin D. Owens and really liked it the second time too.

Loved Spirited Away by Cindy Miles. I've already recommended it to about five people. It was really good, very reminicent of Lynn Kurland. Excellent.

Reread Julie Garwood's Castles. Not loving it as much as some JG but it was good too.

Half-way through Robert Crais' latest. Kind of slow which is a huge disappointment.

57Storeetllr
Jun 15, 2007, 11:56 pm

Hi, Beret ~ Yes, I agree, The Taste of Innocence is kind of predictable, but it's good enough to continue reading. :)

I enjoyed Joe Pike's story, though it was a lot different from the way he writes the Elvis Cole stories. I didn't much like the ending, though I kind of assumed it just meant there'll be a sequel.

58Marisal
Jun 16, 2007, 11:56 am

I just started reading The Taste of Innocence too! I like it, but I'm not sure whether I like the hero. The way he is going about seducing Sarah bothers me. Heroes sometimes do underhanded things to get the girl, but Charlie seems a little sleazy to me. But I'm a real fan of Stepahnie Laurens so I'm trusting her to put it all to rights in the end.

By the way, I loved loved loved It's in his kiss by Julia Quinn. She sure knows how to write a love story!

62Linkmeister
Jun 17, 2007, 12:40 pm

I read Crusie's Crazy for You and Anyone but You yesterday. The latter is amusing, what with a big ol' basset/beagle mix named Fred inadvertently playing matchmaker. Some won't like the 10-year age discrepancy (she's older), but it made sense to me.

The former is not a comedy (although there are some funny spots), but a tale of a stalker and the lengths he went to trying to get his target back. I was fairly appalled, but it was very well told.

63Jenson_AKA_DL

I finished reading Mona Lisa Blossoming by Sunny which was good, although not as good as the first book IMHO

Now I'm reading Storm Front an urban fantasy by Jim Butcher which is my Go Review that Book! book.
