I came across a book a while back that dealt with American and German soldiers in the Ardennes that call a truce in order to fight "something out of the ordinary" - I don't remember if the blurb mentioned specifically what it was (creature/aliens/ghosts), but I believe it took place before the Battle of the Bulge.

With the exception of the horror element, it sounds reminiscent of "A Midnight Clear" by William Wharton, or the 2002 film "Silent Night"

When I think of WWII horror, the first thing that comes to mind is The Keep by F. Paul Wilson. But that's set in Romania and I'm not sure if there are any allied soldiers in it or not. So it's probably not what you're looking for.

No - read that years ago. This book seemed more recent. I actually wrote the name down but left the notebook in a bookstore!

Could it be Shadows In the Mist by Brian Moreland:
The truth will not stay buried.
During World War II, Germany’s Hürtgen Forest was a killing field. But there was something worse than the enemy in the mist. An ancient power was waiting to prey upon those who opposed the Third Reich.
Jack Chambers survived the war, but even after all these years, he still has nightmares about Hürtgen—and the unholy horrors he battled there. Now he is determined to reveal the truth behind his platoon’s massacre and entrusts the task to his grandson, Sean. But Sean’s quest sets him in a deadly race against those who wish to bury the truth forever—and those who plan to use it to unleash hell on Earth.

That's not it - it was actually set during the war - but this looks great. Thanks!

Book Description
Publication Date: Jun 1 2000
Christmas Eve, 1944. The Ardennes Forest was thick with blood as the Battle of The Bulge raged on. But in the midst of combat, 200 troops--Americans and Germans alike--abruptly ceased fighting each other and united to face one common, and unspeakable, enemy. Only two men survived. Now, more than five decades later, one still remains institutionalized and unable, or unwilling, to speak. Then, suddenly, he begins to rant, shrieking in terror about unmentionable horror in the Ardennes...pray that somebody listens to The Ardennes Tapes.
