YA Iron age novel

I read this when I was about 12 or 13 and would like to try and find it. It was rather distressing to me at the time having been raised to think every story should have a happy ending. It centers around an Iron Age teenage boy and girl, possibly in Denmark. The girl has the ability to hum to bees to avoid being stung while robbing them. A younger girl helps her. In the end the boy has died and the girl is about to be sacrificed. Ring any bells for anybody?

I'm pretty sure this is The Faraway Lurs by Harry Behn. I love this book, and was so excited when I found a copy for my own in a thrift shop. An Iron Age story with Romeo-and-Juliet overtones.
